Default Surprisingly few 987.1 are equipped with Porsche Sports Exhaust - is it a must have?

Hi there

I'm looking through the used 987.1 Cayman S offers here in Europe and so far I've only seen two examples out of approx. 70 equipped with a Porsche Sports exhaust. What's the reason for that and is there a big difference between standard exhaust and PSE? I don't intend to go aftermarket. Looking only for examples with PSE would drastically limit the the available cars... is it a must have?

Depends what you already have. I have a 991RS with CMS center exhaust so my 987.2 Spyder that does not have PSE is a welcome change as being more subdued.

Not a must have at all.
Also, if desired, the OEM PSE can be added if desired. No need for aftermarket.

Thanks to both of you! It is going to be my first car with the sole purpose of enjoyment. What is the difference in terms of sound? Do any of the non-PSE owners miss it?

Not sure if it’s a viable option but if the cars with the PSE are close to you test drive them and decide for yourself. Sound is very subjective.

i have a 981 CGTS and i personally love the PSE as I have the option to keep the car in “quiet mode” when leaving my home, when law enforcement is nearby or any other time i want to be subtle. Alternately when I’m out on a spirited drive in the middle of nowhere I can press the button and listen to that flat six.

Initially you stated that this would be the first car you bought simply for please - my advice is to buy without having any regrets later on.
