I love the short gearing of the 987 Spyder to the long gearing of the 981, despite the power difference. That is what prompted me to sell the 981 even though I totally regret it now.

Did you actually get a chance to compare the gearing of 987 and 981? A couple of forum members posted max speed of lower 3 gears from 987 Spyder. The difference was just a few miles lower on the 987!! That is, for all practical purposes, on the street, a 987 wouldn't make any difference in terms of shifting frequency! Unfortunately I haven't saved those #s. A search could bring them up; or, someone could actually go chase the redline and find out. On the other hand, the shifter in 981 Spyder is super cool (as you know); way better than 987's. The quality of shifting is almost as good as S2000, the benchmark. Almost a tie; S2000 takes the cake only because the throw is shorter.
