Brought my car in to have a bolt removed from my rear tire yesterday. Fortunately, small enough to plug it, no need to replace the tire - yet anyway. In talking with a couple of salespeople, they sing the praises of the 718S but to a person say there is no substitute for a NA six. The four just sounds too much like a WRX. It's just not for me, no matter how quick, etc. These cars must appeal to all your senses, and from my perspective, sound is a huge part of the experience. As for alcantara, again, not my taste. Apparently, it doesn't wear that well, either. I just don't like the look or feel of it. Again, no substitute for leather!

I get it’s not for everyone... as for the wear... I disagree... love it on my Spyder.

More fluff than substance. When it first came out I wanted a RS-60 but wasn't in the mode to buy one. In reality the RS 60 was the same recipe, vertical stacked tailpipe, meaningless HP bump and a plastic "limited" plate. No thanks, my Spyder doesn't have any plate but the changes they made were far more meaningful and extensive. These units are too much like the old Pontiac recipe of either write, "sport" or "formula" on the rocker panels then slap on some stripes and a spoiler. I like the pops and burbles the Spyder makes and although I'm sure the four banger has plenty of giddy up I agree with others that it should be way cheaper if they want higher sales numbers.

Ouch!!!
Base price for the 981 GTS Boxster was $74,600. That’s a $7300 increase! This means the 982 Spyder will be priced in the 90s for base! Meaning to option one as my current 981 Spyder will be closer to $130-140!!!... especially with the new PTS premium. Reasons to upgrade are getting thin. All stars aligned with my 981 Spyder and I don’t want another regret. Who’d thought I would keep my Spyder this long... I know many of you had bets I wouldn’t last a few months.

power was fine but didn’t blow me away or seem much different from my memory vs a 981 GTS I drove last year. Also, 981 Spyder I drive within minutes after (and that so since bought) felt more powerful, though I don’t know if it actually is.

positives? Well, generally they’re around the things that are the same as 981.... good suspension and road feel, steering, styling (though I’m still on fence about rear end with PORSCHE letters in that narrow strip)

only positive I’d grant the 718 vs 981 is the new PCM infotainment with Apple CarPlay.

on the 718 Cayman S I drove, when I turned on the Sport exhaust, it sound worse. Just louder bad noises from the 4-pot turbo. I half expected to find out the engine was made by Briggs and Stratton for a riding lawnmower.

Alcantara is OK in small doses as an accent. My Spyder has it of course. But what I don’t like is when they use black (really dark Grey in real life) Alcantara against black leather as a substitute for leather. Better if it’s used in a contrasting color against leather of a different color, and ideally on surfaces you don’t touch or rub up against as much (headliner, door cards, etc), not high contact surfaces like seats and steering wheel.

Agree with you on that lapis, the houndstooth others have substituted in the sport buckets looks far superior.

[QUOTE=Phil G.;14543007]As for alcantara, again, not my taste. Apparently, it doesn't wear that well, either./QUOTE]

The biggest issue with alcantara that I have seen is with body oils causing matting. On a steering wheel or gear shifter matting occurs very quickly. On the Spyder i went with leather on the steering wheel and shifter.. On the seats and door panels if you regularly vacuum and wipe with a cloth lightly moistened matting should not occur. That said, if I could have gotten leather on the seats in the classic interior package I would have.

I too have the leather sport wheel and I'm glad it's not alacantra, I'm really unimpressed with the alacantra period.

On the caymanS i didnt like the look of the "aero pkg" but i do see the appeal of the front and back of the 718 gts in the released pictures. That being said i see no reason to switch from my 981 gts.

Are the wheels on that Cayman GTS the same wheels available on the S, just painted black? I don't know what it is about them, but they look bigger and more dished to my eye. Really like that look. A GT Silver GTS with those wheels and PCCB would look very nice. But that front bumper and that motor...

When I purchased my 997 GTS Cab, the package had some value. 408 hp/power kit vs 385, choice between GTS interior and leather, choice between CL and 5 lugs, standard SPASM on coupe. Means less and less as we go along. And the price creep on the 991s, omg. When I build a GTS the way I'd want it, it's in GT3 territory. T'aint worth it, imho.
