So what's a GT car?

The car was developed by AP and the GT division.

GT4 is the only GT not built by the GT division. Parts were borrowed from other GT cars rather than developed specifically for the car. But yes, you are correct the GT division did select and test the combination.

Developed? Other than the rear suspension, the entire car is a parts bin special. What development did they have to do on the GT4 other than horning in the 3.8, a 6 speed box and getting the aero right, all of which they had to do on the Spyder as well?

True, as a prototype, there could be a lot of extraneous bits attached either to test or distract/deceive. The picture isn't detailed enough. I would suspect things like diffuser or any aero bits might be less susceptible for obfuscation. We will see more pictures in the coming months. Until then, let's continue to speculate and debate!! :-)

One thing that's gonna disappoint me for sure, as seen on the picture, is that stupid 'P O R S C H E' script in the back. I hope that section gets redone. If not, I will do whatever I can to get rid of it!

One crappy *** picture and some different exhaust tips and you're concluding it's a turbo'd engine?

Damn, you're all good!

When should we expect orders to be taken? Anyone?

The 987.2 Spyder debut November 2010... 981 Spyder debut April 2015 with first deliveries late September 2015. IMHO the 981 Spyder was launched the wrong time of the year. Rumors are the 982 GTS will debut in LA in a couple months. Meaning deliveries in late Spring. I would expect the Spyder/GT4 to mirror that a year after. I have had my name down at the dealer at the dealer for some time now... almost a year. If you are interested in one, I would do the same. Orders won’t commence until debut.

Only if I can get PTS, Sport Buckets, and Manual.
Design also needs to be right... better to be safe, than sorry.

I also have had my name down for a year, first in line. But as you've said it has to be what I want. I doubt Porsche will screw it up.

Those using “982” for a model designation. Do you mean “981.2” or is there a suspicion the chassis is all new again?

It's a brand new designation. Given the model name change to "718" and the association to the historic namesake, Porsche felt the need to call it Type 982.

Technically the 982 chassis is a 981.2... yes the exterior is almost completely new (IMHO not new enough to justify the change.) There has to be some tweaks for the 4 pot... but it is a 981.2. Like Rider mentioned it’s more a marketing strategy with the new 718 model designation. It also may mean we will see three full generations with this chassis? The 992 911 will be a huge jump and if the 983 doesn’t get that leap it may be a little weird and out of place? Time will tell.

I had not checked the part numbers. Thanks for the info, Gents.

Cheers!
