Default a Rat ate my Spyder.

After over-hearing about vermin damaging a Porsche while in the service waiting area, I've now experienced it myself. Anyone else having a problem with Vermin wanting to eat your Car?

I've used Bounce, A Sound Box, Pepper Spray, Moth *****. and nothing works.

Never had this problem in NYC when parked 6 floors under 1 Penn Plaza.

The snakes eats the rats!

Seriously I’ve had a 2 foot lizard sit on the tank of my motorcycle. When I tried to shoo him away he decided to crap all over it. Nice green poo!

I've had a rat make a winter home for itself inside the engine bay of a showroom condition first gen MR2 I had covered in storage. Wasn't pretty as it decided to taste most of the air system and coolant hoses, fortunately not much electrical so all replaceable. But I've been paranoid with the Spyder and 964 ever since.

There are only two answers; buy a cat or invest in rat traps.

On a side note, be thankful Porsche still makes so many parts for our older cars. Try finding any new air ducting for an 80s Toyota...

I've used the approach of eliminating food/water sources wherever possible and also eliminating hiding spots. I also keep the floors clean so if I do see a rat/mouse dropping I immediately set traps and usually catch before they have a chance to make a home in the car.

Set traps. Problem solved in a couple of days. Anytime I've had mice or rats somewhere I lived, I removed them with traps relatively quickly. They're really stupid animals.

I put 8 bowls of moth ***** all around my car in the garage in the winter and have had no issues. Plan to do the same this winter.

With poison they could die in a difficult place to locate, I bought one of those battery zap traps, they work awesome and you can reuse them many times.

I'm surprised moth ***** didn't work for you. They work great in our Florida vehicle.

Remove cabin filter, a min. no. in the car and little bowls around the outside works for us.

THANKS EVERYONE FOR THE INFO AND TIPs.

I have the traps too, but I've thrown away the poison for fear of poisoning the food chain. I'm in a special area where there is a "rare" rat, a Kangaroo rat, and it looks a little like a chinchilla lol :P

Anyhoots, getting a new saddle and $23,000.00 and 90 days later I'll have my Spyder back..... Not the ownership experience I was expecting. I hope it gets better. Thank God for USAA Auto & Home Insurance.

I wonder if the Humidity keeps the Moth ***** Active Longer? Where I live in SOCAL COASTAL DESERT they last a week max before they disappear into air. I keep sprinkling them under my car.

Thanks though.

The Helpful SA at Carlsbad, Jeff, said that a bar of Irish Spring in a certain"place" was the key and that it needed to be replaced every four months or so.

My silver Spyder is going in to get a bar of soap on Friday.

I found a few rat droppings in my storage garage a couple months back. Glue traps, spring traps, bait, etc and nothing is touching the bait or in the traps but some crickets. I think he was just cruising through.

Yup, we use a couple bars of Irish Spring too!
