My new 2010 Cayman Base was delivered last night. No disappointment! It is an awesome car and has plenty of power. I love the howl of the 2.9 at high rpm. I had never driven one of these before, but was counting on all the rave reviews here and elsewhere. The car came out of San Diego to here in Missouri. Fortunately my nephew was nearby in SD and went to see the car in person and test drove it. He said he almost bought it and was going to tell me it was sold when he got there! )
The 911 that I spent the last 4 years building is headed to a new home. I'll miss it, but no regrets!
It didn't have a ton of maintenance done to it, but at 23,000 miles, it hadn't needed much yet. I've got an oil and engine air filter coming as well as spark plugs and some Castrol brake fluid. Mobil 1 0W-40 is on the shelf.

Thanks, the prior owner used it lightly but didn't do a good job with anything but the annual oil change.
I've got 3 original tires, Michelin Pilot Sports, are these the same as the Pilot Sport PS2's? They are date coded May 2009. The rears are not quite to the wear bars, the one on the front has good tread left. All of them look fine with no dry rot, but that age makes me nervous. The 4th is from near the end of 2013. I can get 4 Conti Extreme Contact Sports for a couple hundred less than 3 Michelin PS2's. I'm thinking I'll go for the Contis, I've read good reviews on them. The new Michelin 4S's aren't available in 18's yet.
Next is oil change and replace the spark plugs!
Edit - The current tires are the PS2's. Pilot Sports were directional.
I went ahead an ordered the Pilot Super Sports. They were higher rated than the PS2 and a generation newer.
Over the weekend I did the 40,000 mile service: Brake fluid and spark plugs. The brake and clutch bleed were pretty straight forward. I used a motive power bleeder dry and topped off the brake fluid reservoir a couple times. The fluid that came out looked pretty disgusting!
On the spark plugs, the forward plug on the drivers side was a B****! I had to get a 1/2" ratchet on the extensions and wobble joints to get it out! It fought me on every last thread! At one point I thought I was going to end up with aluminum coming out with the spark plug threads. I was picturing my new Cayman on a flat bed to the dealer with my tail between my legs! The other 5 combined took 1/4 the effort. Don't let your spark plugs go 8 years without changing them!
Nice car I too was considering a base 987.2 Cayman but got a sweet deal on a 987.1 Boxster S. Enjoy, nice to see someone who is like me wrenching their own car!
