Buyers think they're getting a good deal, but in reality all Porsche did was force you to buy a **** ton of options. Yes, it's cheaper than tarting up an S, but in the end it's also almost always a more expensive car than the average specced S, because there are options thrown in that few people would pay for ala carte.
What options did Porsche force anyone to buy with the GTS? The GTS was an evolution of buyers already adding the a la carte sport exhaust, sport suspension, and sport chrono package to the S model. Porsche saw the demand and responded with a unique model that included these options at a lower total price.
I spec'd out an S. I ordered/bought a GTS instead. It was the cheaper way to get the sport suspension, sport exhaust, and sport chrono package. The only thing I was "forced" into by Porsche was accepting unique bumpers and an increase in power and torque which were special to the GTS model. I still got to pick my seats, seat coverings, seat belts, gauges, dash and door trim, floor mats, transmission, wheels, paint, radio, etc.
