Buyout option for 2015 Cayman S at end of lease
 
All,

I noticed the residual value set in my lease papers for the 2015 Cayman S we just leased (with considerable options) is 52000$. This is 30 month lease (so it will be a 2015 Cayman S at the end of October 2017). I can see a dealer price of 54000 $ for 2012 Cayman S currently (as a reference)...52000$ looks very good deal.

Is it worth buying it at the time? I would like to make a decision so that I can either use the allowed mileage to the max or save it for years to come after lease end.

Btw, I have been loving the car so far - not a surprise.

Most 14-15 CS I see are over 60k. Seems too good to be true? I'm no expert though.

The residual value on a lease is not the same as the purchase price at the end of the lease ... generally speaking. I learned that the hard way when I leased an M3 and ran up the miles intending to buy it at the residual value ... but it was not to be. The residual value is set by auto manufacturers to make a lease payment fall in a targeted range.


What is your annual, allowable miles on your lease?

Hi are you sure? I called Porsche and they said, that's what I will end up paying if I decide to purchase + tax/official fee.

I have 30 month / 7500 miles per year deal.

I see in my lease doc that I can buyout for the residual value.

If Porsche confirmed it then the number is real. Leasing is a more costly way to finance the ownership of a car. If you bought this one at the end of the lease for the stated residual amount, I think that you would have overpaid for the car ... especially if you then finance the purchase price rather than cash buy. Personally, I'd enjoy the car for the 30 months and then decide at that time if you still want to buy it. I would not run up the miles as doing so would essentially be deciding to buy the car up front. For me, 7k miles per year is not enough. Also, you may want to try a 911 after the 30 months with the Cayman. Keep your options open and enjoy the ride.
