Default Mr12Volt Custom Splash Screen Instructions - P2000 PCM 3.1

Mr12Volt sent me the instructions and files to replace their splash screen that appears for about 5 seconds when you start the car. Mr12Volt P2000 is an interface that upgrades PCM 3.1 to support Apple Car Play, Android Auto, and cameras. Attached are Boxster splash screens I made.

Contact Mr12Volt Customer Service Chat to get the update file. I can't include it because it will be outdated when they update the firmware and it might be dangerous if flashed to the wrong model.

Instructions:
1. Create an 800x480 JPG and name it "bootlogo" with no file extension.
2. Format a 32GB or smaller USB thumb drive as FAT32.
3. Copy the bootlogo and update file to the root of the drive, and plug it in to the P2000's USB.
4. Go to Settings > System > Factory Mode > Reboot. The firmware update will install and the new splash is ready (your old settings are retained).

Notes:
I used an SD card with a USB reader instead of a thumb drive. Silhouettes of other models are available here. I created the splashes using Paint.net and saved them as a 100% quality 4:4:4 JPG.

I flashed a bunch of splash screens to try out different designs, and occasionally it lead to problems with the cameras cutting out when switching between them, which caused the Mr12Volt system to freak out and crash with distortion, green lines, etc. If that happens, just flash your firmware again. I am using an actual old thumbdrive now, which seems to give perfect results.

So don't worry that your cameras are broken or acting like they're undervolted, it's just the firmware needing to be re-flashed.

Update: this may be related to the size of the image as well. Mr12Volt just responded to me saying the full-size should be under 40kb.

Reviving an old thread but I recently installed Mr12Volt on my 958 Cayenne Turbo and I just cannot change the bootlogo//splash screen.

Using a 8gb USB drive. Formatting to FAT32. 'update' and 'bootlogo' file in root of USB drive (with no file extensions). Connecting USB to cable that goes to Mr12Volt blue box. Going to Settings > System > Factory Mode > Reboot. Nothing, Mr12Volt splash screen/bootlogo remains.

- I've tried these steps using both Mac and Windows machines, no luck.
- My custom bootlogo is 29kb.

Mr12Volt details:
Software: Box-P260 V3.14.00.1010
System: Mr12volt 2022-06-18
MCU: PCM3.x_20221207B

I believe you have to use the SD card slot in the front of the mr12v box instead of the usb port. Not 100% certain, but that's what I remember reading

Interesting point 🤔... Will try that later and will update.

Update: Used a SanDisk Micro SD with no luck. Everytime i go to factory mode and reboot the unit, the Mr12Volt splash screen still comes up.

Sorry to bring up an old post, but I am having trouble trying to change the Splash Screen AND install the current firmware on my Mr12Volt PCM 3.0. Current firmware shows a date of 5-11-23, but the Mr12Volt site has an update as recently as Nov '23. Anyway, at the same time I am trying to change the bootlogo. So far I've tried using a thumb drive from the USB cable and a Micro SD in the card slot. The thumb drive in the USB makes the unit think I plugged in a media source, The SD in the slot flashes the Blue LED on the unit but does nothing else. A forced reboot using Settings> System> Factory Mode> Reboot via Thumb Drive or SD does nothing but reboot the system. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I've been trying for months to apply the new firmware too with no luck, and I've contacted them several times asking for help with no response. Something is wrong with the firmware itself because the older versions flashed immediately from SD or USB with no exotic setups.

If others could ask support about this maybe we could get an answer. It's a shame because I feel like the unit needs a lot of simple QOL fixes that the firmware might address.

@CruisinUSA I'm not even so worried about the functionality right now, it was really the Slash Logo that got me started. I'm just frustrated that it won't do either

Also, to follow up on the problems I reported: I eventually traced my random camera glitching to the ground connection on my rear camera. I had originally grounded it to the frame nearby, but after switching to Mr12volt's camera ground wire instead the issues seem to have disappeared, so it wasn't related to the firmware.

Wish I could edit that post but too much time has passed.

Not sure why your having issues updating firmware but I can tell you for sure that you need to do it through the SD not usb.

Thanks, I was misremembering using USB. Anyways I'm using the exact same 8GB SD card that worked every time with the old firmware, formatted to FAT32 and setup the same. I've tried a handful of other cards too (all under 16gb, FAT32, root directory fw file named correctly with no extension).

Three users in this thread are having the same problem, so if you could pass this along it would be much appreciated.

Good news, after chatting with Mr12volt support, they helped me figure out that my SD card extension had gone bad. I swapped it for a new one and it updated right away. Very happy with their service!

When you install the Mr12volt unit, definitely attach an SD card extension so you can update the firmware without pulling the dash apart.
Here's Here's
the one I used this time.

I tuck the extension and the USB cable under this interior panel:

You use the USB cable for updating the splash screen, not the SD card slot like with a firmware update.
