2013 981S quality

In a few weeks my 981S will be six years old, and it is without question the best built, highest quality car that I have ever owned and that includes four 911s I've owned over the decades. No squeaks or rattles and the car gives me as much pleasure today as it did six years ago. My only investments in six years have been normal maintenance.
Typically after six years I normally would be getting ready for a trade-in, but not this time. Since I'm not a fan of 4 cyl turbos, the 718 doesn't interest me. The only car on the horizon could be the GT4. The good news is that I have a trouble free, well maintained car that I love to drive. So maybe this will be the car that I'll still be driving in another six years.

Same here. My 2014 Cayman will never be sold. If something happens to it, I would look for another one.

PorscheAddict 03-11-2019 07:20 PM

Ditto! So impressed with my 2014 still. Even compared to newer ones and newer other luxury brands.

Agree. Love my 2014.
Very reliable.

I really like my 09 Boxster PDK. Only 35k miles, but 14 track days. But it was made in Finland.

My wife asked recently, "should we get you a new car"?
I laughed, "I drive one of the finest sports cars in the world, why would I want to change"?
AND the top comes down!
Cobb tune for the extra power, Soul Valvetronic exhaust for the sound, Schnell bits for the track ... and no car payment.
No, I'm not changing.

dFW01TT - It sounds like you should keep your wife too.

I like to hear these reports from '13/'14 owners. My " '14" was built in May '13 and sold on the West Coast in June. Must have been a VERY fast boat.

Very happy with my 2015 and no reason to change it. Just as well cos my missus has fallen for this car like no other Long trips in comfort , short trips for shopping , top down cruising the seaside or mountains , occasional track days. All taken in its stride with only regular servicing so far.

I use to get a letter from my dealership on a regular basis offering me a great deal on a new 718S. For "only" $60K plus my car I could be driving a new 718S with a four year warranty. The letters stopped when I told the sales manager that I prefer NA 6s to 4 cyl turbos. The great thing about 6+ year old Porches is that they don't depreciate that much. My guess is that my 981S will sell for around $5K less in three years. OTOH if I bought a new 718S, I'd be lucky if the dealer gave me $30K less than the purchase price. So I get to drive a car that I love for three more years for about $5K.

Ditto on the 2013 BS love. My CPO warranty just expired in January so I hope the good luck continues, but now I feel more free to do some mods if want to. I see no reason to sell this car as it brings way more pleasure than the piddly dollars I would get for it.

My 14 CS turns five this month. It has only been to the dealer for an instrument cluster update in its first year and for a free inspection when the warranty was about to expire last year. I do my own maintenance and have exceeded all service requirements. In fact I changed the motor as well as the gear oil yesterday. I know it's way early for the gear oil change but Sunset Porsche sells Mobil Lube PTX by the quart so a hundred bucks every five years doesn't seem excessive. The car runs perfectly and has never even thrown a fault code. I to would love the GT 4 but can't justify it when this car is so bulletproof and enjoyable. This car is better than I am as a driver so really what's the point of an upgrade. I enjoy this 14 CS much more than my two previous 911s. I'm in for the long haul I guess.

Ditto, love my 981 CS as well! It's been a great car for over 30k miles with no major things to report, just normal maintenance mainly. I have changed an ignition coil (under warranty) and a random front wheel bearing getting squeaky. Very reliable car thus far.

I too wish for a GT level car, but this 981 CS keeps growing on me...especially now it has some go-fast, racy sound goodies like headers, tune, brake upgrade etc. - I'm not missing the GT experience as much.

Ideally would be good to keep 981 as the daily and add on a GT car one day.

Glad to hear all these great reports from 981 owners! I pick up my new-to-me 2014 boxster s with 15k miles on the 23rd!

okie981 03-12-2019 03:37 PM

I will always own at least one 981 car, and never want to part with the one I have now, bought off the showroom floor in November of 2015. I'm looking to buy a 981 Cayman S with PDK to give the Boxster some company in my garage.

It's new 981 owners like you that I had in mind when I initiated the thread. The tendency on car forums is to post problems, and that's understandable but it can lead some to reach inaccurate conclusions regarding a car. Granted that there's only anecdotal info in this tread, but well respected J D Powers awarded the 2013 981 with best in class in initial car quality.
