Porsche 981 Product Showcase
The 981 chassis has proven it self time and time again, it goes without saying that it is here to stay as one of the pinnacles of Porsche naturally aspirated goodness. With that comes the distinctive sound of a flat six that only Porsche can achieve. Being a group that just can’t leave well enough alone, we thought the like minded among us here on Rennlist would be eager to see and hear what we have been able to achieve.
VALVED EXHAUST SYSTEM: We decided the first order of business would be to make a reasonably priced valved exhaust alternative. We also wanted to ensure that there was a suitable difference between loud and quiet modes. Cruise on the highway with no drone or pull into the neighborhood at night in quiet mode and open the valves on your favorite back road or track to listen to the howl of your engine. Valve operation is controlled by the included remote or by tying the system into your HomeLink button. Each system is made from mandrel bent T304L stainless steel tubing and features mufflers with fortified casings in the interest of durability. You can order the exhaust to suit your specific aesthetic desires – select from our Signature Satin or a full polish finishes, with tips of your choosing.
Our COMPETITION HEADERS: offer the greatest gains in power and sound. You’ll notice the 11 lb weight savings, decreased operating temperatures, and improved engine response all while enjoying the race inspired tone.
Our LONG TUBE STREET HEADERS are built around large diameter, free flowing HJS HD 200-cell catalytic converters with long tube runners for maximum gains in power, throttle response, and flat-six engine tone. Proven design elements including port matched flanges, smooth radius primary tubing, and collectors that optimize the exhaust flow all work in conjunction to maximize power gains. We back the HJS catalysts for 3 years and the headers themselves for life.
POWER: Our Competition Package was tested on a Mustang Dyno on a vehicle that was equipped with existing race headers, Porsche Sport Exhaust System, and a custom tune as the baseline. The Soul Performance Products Competition Package picked up 11 whp and 9 ft-lbs of torque – with more power expected with a custom re-tune
BOLT ON AND GO: Each product is tested in a fixture to ensure perfect fitment. Thorough installation instructions are included in the box for a straightforward install that can be performed by most DIY enthusiasts. Installation instructions are included.

981 Valved Exhaust + Competition Headers Installed
Marcus expressed to us that the dump valve exhaust and race header setup on his Cayman had noticeable drone and an overly aggressive sound - he was looking for something more refined that still had an aggressive side. We promised a solution in the form of our 981 Street Package. He went from second guessing switching systems as it may not be worth it on his way here, to leaving absolutely enthralled!

This review is about my experience with some aftermarket headers and valved exhausts. Let me preface this by saying I'm not here to bash anyone and will try to keep this as objective as possible. If you'd like the dirty details-- feel free to PM me.

I had about 30,000 miles on my PDK base cayman before I upgraded to a site sponsor's valved exhaust for my car. I did a lot of research and was assured by my salesperson that the drone would be minimal. After the installation, the exhaust sounded pretty badass, but the drone was pretty bad-- especially with all the highway driving I was doing at the time.
I decided to do a few more upgrades and got the accessport, plenum, bmc air filters, pro tune, and catless headers from the same vendor.
There were a few installation.. err.. surprises, but after everything was said and done-- the car sounded wild
Pros: Noticeable power improvement, loud enough to rev the engine and cars in front of me would move out of the way. Sounded like a GT Cup Car.
Cons: Catless headers, so would not pass emissions; and the big one: too loud.
Yes, with the valves open, it was too loud to drive with. The level of noise was so loud that with the windows down-- my hearing would start to sound muffled. Mind you-- i'm under 30 years old.
Here is a video of it on the dyno:
But the worst issue: the drone. The vavled exhaust had it's own drone, but now with the headers, the overall volume was significantly louder. The drone was obnoxious and not livable.
After about 3,000 miles with that setup, I changed the exhaust AND headers.

I'm now running the Soul Performance valved exhaust and the street headers with cats.
I had the installation done at Soul's HQ and I had ZERO issues.
The valved exhaust has more of a throaty, deeper tone and sounds more like a luxury exotic than a cup car. Personally, I greatly prefer this. With the valves open, it's still very loud-- but in a good way. I have been getting a lot of "thumbs up" from fellow motorists-- something I did not get before with the other setup.
The headers give my butt dyno a little more torque in lower revs vs the catless headers-- which is nice for street driving.
The absolute selling point, however, is the lack of drone. With the valves closed, the car is far more civilized and there is almost no drone whatsoever. I wish this exhaust would have been available two years ago, because I would have bought it then.
This is my car now:

Preparation for shipment! We foam pack every product to ensure your Soul products arrive in perfect condition. We work with the foam company to evaluate every product for best shipping practices - how we can fit the products into the smallest appropriate box while providing ample protection. We include installation instructions that are also a packing checklist. Exhausts are thoroughly checked over prior to shipping. We include a microfiber towel to wipe the exhaust components down after installation to minimize the oils smoking off during your first session.
