Default OEM vs Aftermarket Parts (starter / clutch)

Looking at replacing my clutch and starter.

Clutch - OEM vs. Sachs
Starter. OEM vs. Bosch

Of course aftermarket is cheaper. I think Bosch and Sachs actually made those parts for Porsche.

What is everyone's thoughs on buying oem vs. aftermarket in this case? Savings is in the neighborhood of $400 (Sunset vs Autohaus in this case).

I would stay with Sach and Bosch.

Bosch and Sachs are the OEM's for those parts.

If this is a 968 clutch BE CAREFUL! The OE clutch could have been a Sachs or an AP. Either is an acceptable replacement, but the aftermarket Sachs most people sell are typically the 911 pressure plate which has more pressure (spring tension) which can lead to firewall cracking. The correct pressure plate has a green stripe if for a 968 and IIRC, a blue stripe is for a 911 and no stripe is a turbo 911.

There are threads regarding this on this forum and I believe I may have posted one some years back, but don't have time to locate it right now. ONLY install a green stripe pressure plate unless you have firewall bracing and/or significant firewall reinforcement.

The BOSCH reman starter is great

Thanks for the info! Do you know if the OE kit from Porsche would have the 968 plate and not the 911 plate?

Thanks - RS Barn is a bit pricey.
I think Porsche stopped offering the 968 specific pressure plate and now only offers the 911 version (96411602890).

I have had 2 968's that had the 911 pressure plate installed and both had cracked firewalls. After installing the correct pressure plate (green stripe) it was much easier to push the clutch petal, it felt much better.

That is incorrect. I ordered one recently from sunset. It's available and a lot cheaper than other places.

Did you order the kit from Sunset? Did you get the 964 pressure plate? By the way, Sonnen has it cheaper than Sunset for future reference.

Did you install the Sachs or Porsche version?
I found that the part number referenced for many sites is Sachs W0133-1597562 for both the 911 and 968. There weren't different part numbers. But maybe I missed something.

This is what they told me was in the clutch kit:

944-116-014-90 - Clutch Plate

964-116-027-90 - Pressure Plate

944-116-080-01 - Release Bearing

I think the correct plate has the number 3082 213 101. I believe it is a Sach's number and has a green stripe. Some places will say they have one for the 968 and it is a 964 which requires too much pressure. The new one I found a couple of years ago was old stock. I would call RS Barn and maybe they could explain the difference. Barn may have his special made???

The 911 that had broken the firewall was a Sach's 3032 125 198 or 193. I found this picture somewhere explaining the color markings.

Found some old threads and I guess the bottom line is that RS Barn is the place to go to get the green labeled pressure plate. Buying from the dealer could get you the green or the blue labeled plate.
