PPI Results - feedback requested
So I am looking at a 1994 coupe, 6 speed, with 76,000 miles. Out of town car and just got back the ppi results. Love to get everyone's take on these findings:
- oil leak; noted oil pan?
- steering rack was moist but fluid level was fine
- ac compressor leaking behind clutch
- lower control arm bushings torn
- hydraulic lines - rear rubber lines old
- window washer inoperable
- small cracks in dash
Everything else came back okay except needing new tires and some dents, dings.
Are the above items scary enough to walk away or expensive to repair?

When you say everything else came out "okay", did they actually note the condition of all the other components or only brought up what they saw as not "okay". The reason I ask is because I was blindsided because I trusted the mechanic looked with a critical eye, which did not happen. Read about what I experienced on my website. http://www.project968.org/the-start-of-ownership/
If still possible, have them take pictures of the problem areas and general high resolution pictures of everything else. The items they listed are not exactly bad if you do the work yourself. For example, an AC compressor rebuild is not the end of the world (94 runs R-134a), if everything else in the system is in good shape. Does the AC work? What is the pressure in the system? What I am trying to say is it might be a good idea to ask overly detailed questions about each one of these issues to really understand what you are up against. Focus on the high dollar items such as engine, gearbox, and body/paint (or whatever you might consider high dollar)
Was a compression check done? Leak down? Recently I spoke with a 968 owner and he mentioned that it would be very beneficial to boroscope the cylinder walls to see if there is any scoring. Since the engine does not have any sleeves, scoring can end with an engine rebuild that would require sleeving.
Bottom line is there will be more issues than the PPI points out (unless you know and trust the shop really well).
Good luck!

I love your website - great reading about your adventure with your purchase!
As for your question about okay, they noted areas as okay or with the issue.
No compression test done but that is something I will ask for. The mechanic didn't think it was needed but I did ask for one. He sent the report right at closing so I haven't had a chance to talk to him yet.
I will want a mechanic to do all of the repairs for the leaks.
May do some wrenching of my own down the road but the leaks and control arm would be high priority for me. Wondering how much $$ that would set me back.

Oil pan removal and reseal is going to cost you $800 and there's some other while your in there's like rod bearings and oil pickup that are just cheap insurance on a 24 year old. The A-arms and bushings are as little as $500ish with rebuilt and alignment or $1,100 with new oem.
Bottom line is if the carfax and story on the car being clean check out, if they have all the documentation and records for car last say 10 years or more, and if the paint/body are in very good condition then a $15k 968 is right on the edge of needing to be in very good to great condition even in a desirable color combo It still should not need anything major. Lots of minors on a sub $20k Porsche 968 in this market is expected but nothing like major paintwork or a bottom end job, or gearbox rebuild should be expected. Just my take anyway and silver is a very good color for me so I would be a touch in awe and just want it too no matter what the cost....

$5-7k to fully sort it. That would not include any dings or dents. Body work can take things to a complete different level. Low miles, so that is a plus. Silver is a very nice color on 968's.

Also not to be negitive but in my opinion having resealed the motors on so many of these cars I wonder how the oil pan is said to be leaking but yet the whole front of the motor is dry.
