Default Durametric or other OBDII w/adapter

Any recommendations on the Durametric product... would prefer some app based for my phone with a OBDII and P car adapter cable.

Not sure either unit gives or supports much info.

Any feedback? Durametric seems to be $347 for the enthusiast (up to 3 cars based on vin)

Anyone have one for sale?

Thanks

I have the pro version with unlimited vins. Also bought the OBD1 adapter, which is what you would need. Works on some but not all modules.

Thanks Raj

Is there good real time data, rpm, fuel pressure, air/idle, fuel mix etc. etc..

Perhaps Porsche does not offer that up from the ECU?

or is this just a good error code reader/scanner reset tool?

I John, I have never monitored any active systems so I would not know the answer. Have you tried calling them? That might be your best bet to get an idea on what to expect from the tool.

Good luck.

I have seen it graph many functions in real time last time I plugged it in but how to interpret it is above my head.

You can use an Option 1 durametric and buy the adapter seperately and save yourself $50 if you don't need the case that holds both. I've used this one without an issue on my 968

The durametric is the best aftermarket scanner for the p cars. The actual values screen is limited though, but that is just by the design of the dme. There isn't much available to see. I run it off of a cheap ($200) laptop from best buy, and that's all its used for. It can be a little buggy sometimes, but I think it's more the laptop than the software

I have hooked my car up once to my durametric to troubleshoot a door lock issue, if I recall it reads the ABS, Airbag, DME and Alarm/Central Locking modules. I would take a wild guess and say that is everything on the car

I too have not messed with the realtime stats, since this was a pre-obd II car, I assume their are less required features, and this is at a time when manufactures were mandated to monitor things, you should have some basics in relation to emissions (metering from the AFM, o2 temp, water temp, rpm, speed)

Abs isn't on the data line, it does everything but that including the tiptronic module. It would make life much easier if the abs computer was hooked into the diag system

My bad on the ABS.

Here is a small write up I did on making my own OBD II to OBD I Porsche Centric adapter, looking at the screenshot I can see it says ENGINE, AIRBAG, ALARM for the available modules.

Did you try accessing the alarm module? I get a an error on that one but all the other ones work fine and it matches the service manual that says a separate tool is used for alarm troubleshooting.

Yep, worked fine for me, in fact it solved my problems, so a case of a tool actually helping to trouble shoot. The special tool if I recall just does some output tests, and reads the same codes you see on that screenshot in my thread.

I think it is this one: https://www.bergvillfx.com/index.php...tics-tool.html

I looked back and misinterpreted the service manual when the special tool looks like a cable adapter. I hope it was an unrelated error because being able to access the alarm code would make troubleshooting a million times easier. Going to try again tomorrow with the durametric and plan B is jumpering the alarm out then getting a new alarm module.
