It was a 77000 mile red car with a bad transmission for $5500. Was nice in the photos.

They knock the crap out of 'em and not only do they hold ALL their value, they just get more personality, the more you screw them royal.

The 968 is worthy of far less lofty feelings/aspirations/sentiments toward preservation than the beloved-by-all Porsche 911.

I would bomb the sh_t out of a tiptronic car. there is no value, no BRO, no soul and no dignity in attempting to repair a tiptronic transmission unless the car is

1. in a city and you're doing work on your hand's free cell phone

2. keeping the car for your wife or daughter.

3. one of your arms was blown off in one of our fake foreign phony wars.

4. by no fault of your own, you have some other unique disability.

5. you're just clinging to life for some other random circumstance - and you're ready to mail it in.

let's be clear; there's no value whatsoever to an already lower-end, modestly powered, minimally equipped, entry-level Porsche taken even further back by a performance-robbing, dead-tech, pre-historic automatic transmission.

attempting to fix one is just throwing good money after gutless, meritless, automotive impovershment. Thank Christ the demographic of automatic vs manual transmissions isn't like the pathetic 928!!! We're so blessed!! the next totaled 968 manual donor is right around the corner....

if the Tip is the dead part of any otherwise, healthy 968, you should be open to (no matter how temporarily inconvenient) to the (albeit challenging), manual upgrade. There should no road too long, no bridge too far, and no inspired helper in a far-too distant galaxy to stop you from ascending to this lofty place.... enough salvage 968s exist out there to make the move.

After all, you already came this far.

Godspeed.
Stop trying to convince me to make the swap

Just found out I will need to drop the transmission to do some work in the coming months. Perfect timing? Lol.

One of my good friends just opened his own shop. I might ask him how much he think he'd charge for such a job. He said he is interested in winter projects since he thinks it'll be a slow year with limited clients since he just opened.

I bought the red car with the bad transmission. It's a really nice car. Probably one of the best deals I've seen in a long time.

Good for you! I also emailed about it and the person said they were going to get back to me yesterday....but I don't need another Porsche! 2 is enough! Do you live in the Chicagoland area?

M030 coupe near San Diego with 77,000 miles:

http://sandiego.craigslist.org/esd/cto/5796145451.html

From reading the ad:

The color is amazon green not amethyst (one number difference and you go from a purple family color to a green)

The good:
M303
factory LSD
full power seats
heated seats (both)
718

The bad:
The engine needs a complete rebuild
Has not been driven in 8 years, probably need to also go through the gas tank and fuel system

The ugly:
The paint
The door cards
The dash is getting wavy
The hazard switch is missing. The surround is cracked?

This looks like a full glass out restoration if anyone is interested. Unfortunately, I am at least 2 hours away (on a good LA traffic day), otherwise I would be willing to go and look at it for someone.

Could be a nice project for someone with spare time.

Wow, a rare one for sure. Obviously, it is amazon green, 1 of 5 Amazon M030s.
