I had been holding off posting about this as a RL member contacted me and is trying to get the car, or at least look at it.

Good news, the real deal, Speed Yellow cab #7

Bad news, salvage title, I'm not sure of the details

With #7 having a salvage title, and offered at $25k, its time to raise the agreed upon value on my policy. Keep us posted on any details you find on this one Jeff, especially any pics.

Well, it is an interesting story from what I'm told. First off, no collectors insurance. The owner gave the car to his girlfriend to pick him up at the airport. While there, she put the top up and forgot to latch it. Then, while driving on the highway the top flew open and the mechanism was badly bent.

Apparently, mangling the top mechanism on your 968 will cost $13K to fix with new parts which resulted in the car being totalled. The top was then repaired with used parts after the car was purchased back. So, no paint work but a salvage title. The car has over 100K miles on it.

so I'm told....

I 'wonder' what was the insurance company settlement and the buyback amount, and what the actual cost of the non Porsche shop repair of the top and mechanism...

Wow, that's brutal. I can't imagine which one of them had it worse.
