hi Benji,
I have to admit that's quite a helping of humble pie you've just served up there!!!
I can't say enough what a difference it makes to see them mounted on board a 968.
they're very different from mine.... but, I must say - that looks damn good.
I've been saying through and through; that the rise needs to be higher.
clearly, that's a signature opinion that I can't back away from. I won't.
obviously, if I did, it would only make my predicament (as a critic of the design) even worse.
just the same, it's hard to talk and eat humble pie with my foot in my mouth.
but seeing them on one of the cars clearly makes this issue less problematic for me.
nice work.
od.
I was only going by what Mark posted:
as the current fenders had been set up to run with the lenses only.
I wasn't aware of that having changed.

Regardless of approach, the end results speak for themselves IMHO.
Still a HUGE improvement over the Sprite Bug-Eye look the 968 (and 928) OEM equipment.

2 years later...
After nearly 2 years since I first created this thread I've managed to accumulate some parts and took a few photos and made a few measurements today.
In reflection I'm inclined to believe after all of this investigation that if the fenders don't have some form of 'hump', the end user will not have properly aligned/aimed headlights and likely never will be satisfied with the aim of them.
I'll add photos with captions thru a series of posts as I'm a dolt when it comes to inserting comments between pics.
First, a few pics of the bottom of the 993 and 968 fenders.

As previously mentioned in another related thread, there is a leveling motor in the 993 HL assembly which is operated by a switch on the dash.
There is a level built into the 993 HL housing.

I seperated the lens from the HL housing and placed it in the 968 fender opening for reference.
Note the obvious relative height differences between the 993 and the 968 headlight opening. Rough measurements taken indicate ~1" difference in height.
Based on this observation, unless there is a 'hump' in the fender, I suspect that the 993 headlight will likely never achieve proper aiming.

I stand corrected
So, while there is a level indicator in the 993 HL as shown above, I noted in reviewing the 993 PET that perhaps the leveling of the HL's might not be found in all cars. The switch and the small motor are together listed as parts of option code M605. Since it is listed as an option code, perhaps it wasn't applied as a standard universal part of the cars.
Regardless, based on the conclusions I offered up previously - the proper fitment will likely require the hump.

I got a great deal on a set of 993 lenses so figured I'd give it a shot on my track car. They sort of fit but I had to use silicone to fill the gaps - which is fine for race car with nonfunctioning lights but I wouldn't bother with a street machine.

you have to do sheet metal work plus badass body sculpting.....
the hump is HUGE compared to oem.... and yes, there really is NO OTHER WAY (sorry)
but, you will love yourself (and hate Porsche for designing the 968's fenders/fixed headlamp setup properly in 1991).
