Default The 968 is still a competitive platform

I'm autocrossing in SCCA C Street this year against much more modern cars, ie. Subaru BRZ/Toyota FRS, Mazda RX-8, Mazda Miata, Nissan 350Z, etc. M030 sport suspension is still really hot **** after 25 years. Even newer Porsche sport suspension options don't offer ride height adjustment, up to 3 degrees of camber, rebound adjustment on the shocks and adjustable sway bar settings. Something else I thought was crazy is that the m030 rear shock compression setting is equivalent to 10/11 stiffness on the KW V3! People would complain about that much stiffness in a road car suspension today. Here are some results from yesterday - I'm in CS on the class results worksheet.

And here's a clip of that lap.

It was the racing glove that made the speed. No racing gloves = slow lap times, everyone knows that.

Looks like fun. Not being a member of something called 'google docs' I can't see anything on your link, but if you keep up with the RX-8 that's pretty good.

Nice, way to represent.

Overall 32nd out of 189 and only 3.78 seconds off a top time of 36.2 in a Van Diemen Formula Ford, who crushed 2nd place by over a second in an identical car.

I'd like to know what the kids driving the brz's and other much more "modern" equipment say when you tell them it's a 20+ yr old car that's spanking them?

Cheers

Way to represent! It's funny how autox vids never capture the intensity nor feeling of being at the limit. I can tell it was a great drive, congrats. On a side note It's sure strange seeing riveria blue on these cars... It's so bloody rare. I'm sure I'm not alone on that one :-)

Agreed, an M030 car is very competitive - even with much newer 911s and Caymans and good drivers. I've only run in PCA events, but I usually have PAX times in the top 6 and raw times in the top ~10-15 out of ~65. The cars that almost always win top PAX are a few 997 GT3RS's, an amazing driver in a 97 Boxster w/ sport package, and a Cayman R.

I'm on my second season of autocross, running on an M030 suspension that's never been rebuilt with 94k miles, and I haven't touched the damping on the rear. I run with the rear swaybar on full soft.

I feel like people running on the stock suspension probably helps out the PAX handicap which gives the M030 cars an advantage...but I'll take it!

Wow, you made the trek all the way from Florida, huh? That's real dedication. I'll try to make the next PCA race they have at COTA. Yes, it is an amazing facility, and the track has pretty much infinite run-off.

Awesome, nice driving! How would a 968 (non-MO30) with KW Var 3 be in autox? Mine's stock now, and my daily driver. I need new suspension and want to autox a little, nothing serious, once the suspension is sorted.
