Default My 968 broke down on the way to work

Yesterday was a nice day, so I decided to take my 968 to work. About a mile down the road, the engine suddenly died and wouldn't start start up. Waited two minutes, fired up with no problem. So I decided to drive a bit further just to experience the same issue another 1/2 mile down the block. Called my trusted technician, he advised not to drive further, but have him check it out first. I called Geico, they sent a flatbed and off it went. Don't know what it is yet, will find out Monday. First time in two years that my 968 has let me down

Of course this could be the common DME relay failure. Fortunately only a $30 fix.

sounds like a bad dme

or maybe could it be a bad/cracked hall effect sensor no longer able to take the heat and shorting out?

I had weeks of this kind of behaviour when I first bought mine (10 years ago now) and thought I'd been sold a pup. My problem turned out to be the sensor. In fact I think I replaced 2 different sensors at the same time from memory. It was dearer than a relay, but not so shocking, so don't worry too much just yet.

Bingo! It was the DME. Still had the original from '93 in it. Thanks!

I think you mean dme relay and not actually the dme. I doubt you would be excited if you have to pay for a dme .
