So, at first glance you might say this is a pretty ordiinary 968 on eBay. After all, it is black, 1 of 432 and the second most popular color on the NA 968 cab. It has a cashmere interior (1 of 649, the most popular on the cab), that combined with the black exterior and top shows 172 produced, the 4th most popular combo. The options are nice (and unlisted by the seller) including 220 limited slip diff, 437 full power drivers seat, and 490/494 hi-fi sound with Amps, but nothing special.

But, two things make this car special.

1) Early production - this car is #99 of 2,008 and has both the recessed hood badge and the larger, edged rear emblems present.

But what really makes a diference,

2) FULL leather interior car - This car is 1 of 30 NA cabs with full leather interior and 1 of 7 with the option in cashmere. Originally costing almost $5,000 when new (in 92) you have to look close at the photos and have a good eye (like my son Greg) but you can see the leather wrapped and stitched lower dash, door panel pulls, and console. Again, unmentioned by the seller but a great, unique option.

I was looking at that ad yesterday and didn't notice. Those seat covers aren't doing it any favors. Seems like a very reasonable price for a fairly low-mileage 968 Cab.

Interesting. I do not see the leather flap over the armrest like I have on my Black/Cashmere built 10/91. So the armrest is all leather?

It seems like such a small option/feature, but it makes a such a polished look to the interior.

Wouldn't full leather mean the seat piping is replaced with leather stitching? I guess the wrong covers were installed? And having to replace the seat upholstery with such low mileage?

I've only seen one 944/968 interior with full leather in person. It was a 968 with black/maroon interior.

Always liked the leather. Just wish they did the top of the dash too. But I think I know why they didn't

So (as an aside) how rare is full cloth?

Full leather means the full seat, front and back, is covered with leather. I can't say about this car's relacement covers now.

Black/Maroon wasn't factory, I'm not sure what you saw.

So, when you say full cloth you mean the entire seat top covered in the "porsche" script as they did cloth inserts as well and that is more common. There is also the multicloth which is the plaid. All these are somewhat rare. Full cloth is only 4 for NA cabs and 21 for NA coupes.

definitely a nice car.

but recovering with leather and installing an LSD is also stuff we can do to any 968 of any color.

or rare color car, no ? seems to me, the worst mistakes are

1. not buying a 968.

2. not buying a special one if one becomes available and you have the means.

3. or selling the one that you have.

i'm almost like, 'wait, you're serious ??' when i hear about somebody selling their only 9-6-8.

Yes, you're right! I was thinking of the black/tan color, and just replaced the tan part with maroon in my wording. It was all maroon.

I mentioned the cloth because I saw a picture of one with blue sport seats in full Script cloth, including the bolsters. Did the door panels ever come with cloth inserts?

Was Plaid an actual listed option, or was it a special-order item?

I missed the part about two accidents. This car was located near where I grew up so I was regretting that I'm currently too broke to buy it. Now that I know it was wrecked in the past, way less regrets!

But how do they define "accident"? If you got a simple scratch in a parking lot that cost $500 and was covered by insurance would that still be recorded as an "accident"?

Yes, you could get the cloth added to the door panels. Option code 526 and you could get the cloth Porsche script or the plaid added to the door panels. Attached is a shot of the plaid interior, called multicolor coth. This example is in Magenta and has the inserts only as opposed to the entire seat top. Only 6 North american coupes (out of 2,234) and 1 cab (out of 2,008) had this option. Very rare. If you ever see it. it looks really nice in Grey IMHO.
