Default Sale or Trade 93 Firehawk 968

I've drastically reduced the price on my "Authentic" Firehawk 968 to $24,000

Will entertain interesting trades; Cayenne, 996 etc.

Have my Cup car arriving in 3 weeks and need to make room.

I’ve owned this car since 2003 and have over $85,000 in receipts to indicate the level of detail in maintenance and enhancements since purchase. This car was built by Dave White in 1993 to compete in the IMSA Firestone supported Firehawk series. The cage has the original IMSA stickers still in place. This is not a replica Firehawk.

Currently configured for PCA SP3 or F Stock

This car has been exquisitely maintained by Precision Motorsport Racing in Califon NJ since purchase in 2003.

All fluids changed after every race weekend.

Corner weighted and balanced at least 3 times per season to optimize dialing in of suspension. Have all the spec sheets.

Wired for cool shirt and helmet and radio

Outline of major work done

Within the last 3 years:

Complete engine rebuild by Michael Mount with the best of everything. Approximately 25 hours since the rebuild.
Guards LSD
Moton Club Sports - 600lb front / 250lb rear spring set up
Clutch
Starter
Alternator
Power steering rack and pump
Borla exhaust
Battery
Replaced Fab A-Arm pins
Solid suspension bushings throughout
New window net
Schroth belts
Updated fire system
Belts
18 inch Enkei wheels

Within the last year:

New OEM front rotors and calipers
New OEM rear rotors
New OEM Master Cylinder
Front hubs (Racers Edge)
Rear axles

I'm curious. What is the definition of a Firehawk 968? This was not a factory car, right? So anyone could build one?

Firehawk was an IMSA series sponsored by Firestone and the cars built to series spec's. Various manufacturers competed in the series.

But in order to say you had a true firehawk car what definition would you have to pass?
  • Built at the time the racing was going on?
  • certain builders only?
  • Logged actual, specific racing at the time and documented with proof of that racing?
  • How long did this series go on?
  • If someone built a 968 in 1996 or 2013 to spec and raced it would it be considered a Firehawk 968?
Thanks, I've heard of these but never really knew much about them.

To qualify as "Real" it must have built for and participated in the series. It's pretty cut and dry, either it's real or a replica.

Some form of documentation should be available.

I believe the series ran for 5 years. There are a few original 944 Firehawk's out there as well.

There are plenty of replicas built after the series ended using the build sheets/specs. I've driven a couple of them and they are great cars.

I would guess any genuine cars would have a race series logbook.

Looks like 10 years according to Wikipedia (87-97)

So, I'm guessing a 968 built in 1997 that competed in at least one race would qualify. Thanks for schooling me.

Jeff,

I'm not aware of any Porsche's in the series after 1994. The series organizers put some unfair restrictions against the 968's making them less than competitive against over manufacturers.

Do a Firehawk search on Google images and you'll see a diverse collection of cars racing.

Did the factory have any involvement? Did all the cars (like yours) start as street cars? Was your car originally a street car?

Does your FH 968 still have the sunroof? If not, was that pulled out and a new roof installed when the car was set up for racing?

I can vouch for the car and the seller. The car is the "real deal" and Joe has kept it tip-top and competitive throughout his ownership.

The Firehawk Series ran from the mid-80's through the mid-90's with some very well known drivers competing in those races including Boris Said, David Murry (who was a series champ in a '92 or '93 968) and Bobby Labonte. The series even ran a 24 hour endurance race at Watkins Glen in '91 (recently saw some footage of that telecast on youtube).

I'm sure it is. Although I know much of production 968s I don't know much about these firehawk 968s so it is interesting to learn about them from someone that owns one.

The 2 guys that did most all of the 968 stateside development for the Firehawk series are Llyod Hawkins and Dave White. I have been doing some research on the 968 Firehawk cars with some help form a owner / driver who raced in the series.

When I finalize it, i plan to post the info here and then turn over the files to Jeff.

Good Luck with the sale.

JC
