+1 on the Rhino Ramps shown above. My car is race-car low. I'm fortunate to have a driveway that slopes slightly downward. If I place the ramps on the driveway, and butt them up against the garage floor surface itself, the angle produced vs the garage floor (car facing nose-outward from garage) increases the clearance onto the ramps comfortably. Car sits squarely on ramps and I get lots of room under the car to do all front end work, including bleeding the clutch.

If not covered in the thread yet... save yourself some time and use some aluminum foil to form a tray/deflector as needed to divert oil from filter removal. I've tried everything else, to no avail. In my experience, you either make a mess and go through a bunch of rags or borrow some aluminum foil from the kitchen.

I don't even worry about making a mess with the oil filter. I expect it will happen, so I just change it and spray it down with solvent when I'm finished. Does nobody else do that?

i pour a bit of gasoline in and throw a flaming rag on it....

when it's done burning, there's no drippy oil mess.

then i toss it in with the rest of the tin cans.

Yup. I just clean the whole area under there while I'm down there, and sob silently about how much work it would take to make my car full concours-worthy.

There's plenty of road dirt and stuff anyway to clean off using the oil slobber as an excuse.

FWIW: I use a long flat screw driver and hit it with a hammer puncturing the oil filter, unscrew the drain plug and let it drain. Then stick the screw driver back in the whole I and unscrew it. Only a few drops of mess but no big deal.

I usually punch a hole in mine as well and give it awhile no mess then, do the same on my 951. I have two lifts so thats not a problem getting in the air!

I've long ago come to the conclusion that concours competitors are out of their minds, and should not be emulated. Cars should be a little dirty.

My car is more than a little dirty, but that's beside the point. Even when I clean it up, the perpetually-seeping power steering system gives me a reason to spray it down while I'm in there anyway, hence my lack of worry about dripping motor oil.

where are you guys buying your Mobil 1 15w-50 ? ( or what are you using ? not that I want to start another oil thread ! ) our local retail price of $9 is a bit much...

My local Walmart only has quart size M1 0w40 and never on sale. I get all mine (0w40, 5w50, and 15w50 M1) at the local NAPA when it goes on sale, which is two or three times a year.

I picked up 2 cases of 0-40 on sale for 4.99 per quart a few weeks back. Our commercial rep from advance called me to tell me about the deal so i stocked up
