Default Mecum 968

Well, I just got back from the mecum auction (I gotta work, auction goes until Sunday). We were there for 4 day, awesome, amazing amount of great cars. I had to wait until Monday until the 968 showed up. i had been looking for it in the sea of 3,000 and finally, it was there.

It is a very nice car and someone should buy it. I seriously considered it myself. Here are the details:
  • The car is part of the "Lingenfelter collection", the company that builds the crazy HP corvettes. It was 1 of a number of cars he brought.
  • He is the original owner so it is a one owner car.
  • It is a very early car (9/91 build), #25 out of 2,008 cabs. Options include dual full power seats, hi-fi sound with amps, partial leather.
  • It has all the original early car features like the recessed hood and edged rear badges.
  • The car was well cared for and it shows.
  • Interior was mint.
  • Exterior very nice, the front left fender and both quarters were resprayed, pretty nice job, not perfect, no sign of bodywork in my eyes so it must have been scratches. Body was very clean.
  • All maintenance including a recent timing belt job.
  • Shows 67K miles.
  • the only negatives I saw was the missing gloves in the engine compartments and the rubber coming out on the rear bumper

I will post pictures tonight. The car hits the block on Friday. I would seriously buy it myself. I'm not sure what it will go for. I saw some steals and some market sales while I was there. If this car goes for less the 10K it would be a steal. i would say it was a $15K 968 every day of the week.

Jeff

a couple of years ago i was on the phone with them talking having an engine built for my 968, when the gentleman kindly mentioned to me that they had one on site !! ... i was like, 'oh my God, so have you installed a big V8 ???'

the answer i got was that it was being debated, but they hadn't found a solution for the low gearing of the transaxle..... to which i responded that they should call Roger at California Motorsports, in Lake Havasu, AZ—and he'd be happy to hook them up. kind of forgot all about it until this moment.

so Jeff,

how 'bout a 200 mph Lingenfelter V8 968 with monster engine, tranny, custom wheels,

and iconic Lingenfelter badging being featured on national TV at the Mecum auction ?

It is in quite good shape. It would be neat if someone from this forum picked it up.
