I had major health issues back in 2008. The technology today is amazing and I'm living proof (I now have a mechanical heart valve). I hope you find great care and they have you better in short time. Best of luck.

I was just going to write, and then saw that Jeff echoed my thoughts - I work in a neurology clinic at a research hospital where amazing things happen. All I would add is: learn as much as you can on your own, don't hesitate to ask questions, and don't be afraid to advocate for yourself, no matter how intimidating the situation may seem. And find a doc you feel you can trust, and when you do, commit to whatever course of action you agree on 100%. Sorry if any of that is redundant or inappropriate to your situation - I attempted to check out the details, but found the OT forum to be scary like that tunnel they go through on Willy Wonka where things start spinning and it starts to look like a bad acid trip.
I'll keep you in my thoughts.
