My starter had been acting up the last month or so. In the mornings when the ignition switch was turned the starter would make a shrieking sound on the first attempt. I don't think that the bendix gear was engaging the flywheel. It always starts right up on the second try. Anyway it's time for another starter. I hate being stranded.

I bought a used starter locally today and installed it this evening. When I started the car the bendix gear wouldn't retract so I turned off the ignition. Guess what? The starter kept running. Jumped out quickly and disconnected the battery.

Swapped starters again. I will try this exercise tomorrow with a new starter if I can find one locally.

Thats what I did for the last couple hours.

Its called gummy starter syndrome. Porsche rebuilt starters are only approx $100. Well worth getting the original ones.

Put in a new main seal, clutch, pressure plate and lightweight flywheel. Clutch is now smooth as can be. Should have done it a long time ago.

Starter is now squealing so I guess that's next.

trying to decide whether to put track tires on these 18's or on my 17" cup 1's, any thoughts ?

making my way through my winter list - new attachment hardware for the splitter, adjusting my short-shift kit shorter, polyurethane steering rack bushings, new ipod cable for the cr-220, new front pads, oh and the power steering system's leaking all over the place...

i'd weigh the two and pick the lighter for track wheels. also, if your c2 turbo wheels are original, i wouldn't risk them if you had an alternative...

Gave her a 4 inch custom intake system ssssqqqqquuueeeeeeeezzzzeeeeddddd under the throttle (stock upside down) using front vent(stock cause intercooler is front mounted) and both NACA ducts in the hood (still finishing driver's side)

mine went in november. it would start the car... but made this swishing sound at 120 decibels.

With a 70 degree February day on tap in Maryland today I had to drive in top down. My poor 968 has been evicted from the garage for a couple of months (wife's 968 is still living in there) and has not had a battery maintainer hooked up so I had to jump it. I went back into the house for something and forgot the driver door was open, came back out to one of my german shepherds sitting in the driver's seat. thankfully the passenger door was closed so the other one did not get in that seat.

i might be wrong but i think those are stock on the later 968s...

if they were, it would have been done during the 1994 or 1995 model year,

cuz my '94 came with the 'cheap, second class, you're not worthy' seat covers.


but, notice how Speedbump's 911 seats have have a deeper bucket and more side padding, and they curve in at the top.


when delivered with 'proper-Porsche' options, the 968 was a rather extremely expensive car.
