Short Shifter
Anyone found a source for a short shifter for the 968 transmission?

Well. I have not tried before, but I have been told that the regular 944 shift linkage will work on a 968, so I think a 944 short shift kit should also work.

Nope, it won't. The method for bracing the linkage to allow motion between the 1-2, 3-4, and 5-6 gates is completely different between the two models. Because of this, a different bracket would have to be made to allow the Autothority style shifter to work with a 968. If no one makes one, I'll probably modify a stock linkage to get the short throw I'm looking for.

I've been told that by various sources too...
So if the 944 lincage works in 968s, I'm guessing the short shift kit won't work because of a clearance problem? PS: Either way, is there a problem with just pulling knob out, and shortenning the shift lever? Ahmet |

I have this shifter with Momo knob. [ 09-06-2001: Message edited by: M@951 ] |
I would like to keep the shifter inside the car as it is, rather than shortening it. The Autothority short shifter for the 944 shortens the throw at the transmission and narrows the gates at the same time.
New shifters being made by B&M and others for the 996 completely remake the front pivot, and that's what I'd hope to see for the 944/968. |
