Post Was there a 968 Turbo?

I see there's a 968 TurboS with 305hp/368lb-ft and a 968 TurboRS with 337hp/???lb-ft. But was there ever a plain 968 Turbo?

I've always thought that was odd myself, but there are no records of the 968 Turbo, I have looked a lot of info up these cars and I can't come up with any rhyme or reason, my best guess was to furth distinguish it from the 968, like the word turbo wasn't enough.

In a letter written by Porsche regarding the 968 turbo s, it basically states that "s" is used to denote "super designation" for special limited production models. They originally intended to offer a "small series of approximately 50-100 cars." I think there were only ~14 sold. Considering its price of DM152,173.92 without V.A.T. during 1993-1994, it was no wonder that only a handful were sold.

By adding the "S" rather than just "turbo" Porsche was justified to charge that price

Porsche's real problem was that the 968 turbo effectively blew away every other car in thier lineup. Its kind of hard to sell $75k 911's (Porsche flagship) when they will be blown away by thier 4-banger little brother! This has been a marketing problem for Porsche since the introduction of their 951. The answer was to detune (as they did with the 951) or simply never build as in the case of the 968 turbo.

Any serious collector should consider picking up an original 968 turbo if they could find one. This is one of the rarest production porsche's ever made.

Both the 928 and the 924/944/968 series cars could have been made to eliminate the 911, but the "air snobs" would have never stood for it.

Watch, the 911 will probably end up with a V8.....up front.

I am a 911 guy at heart but have to agree with you here. When I sold my '94 Tubo 3.6 I went out and built a hot-rod 951 for 1/4 of the price of what I paid for the 911T. Anyway, they might as well put a v-8 in the front. That piece of crap 996 lower end set Porsche "excellence" back about 40 years. Put the 993 back in, turn up the boost and lets go racing!

Yeah, the 996 has grown so far away from the Porsche's original mission of a sports car that can be raced. Now it's a bloated GT with all the amenities and pampering stuff. I think Kelly's car is what the 944/968 Turbo would have evolved into if Porsche had kept up development. I'm planning on replicating it! (any dyno charts?)

Sorry for the intrusion here but there is a 968CS for sale and my friend is thinking of purchasing it.
My question is how difficult is it to 'upgrade' the 968CS to a 968 turbo s replica? Has anyone on the board done this before and what should the budget for this type of project be? Also, how reliable is this type of conversion?

20 grand or so, not worth it, you should start with a 951 and get a much faster car for that kind of money.

Are these the same wheels as the 3.6 turbo wheels? I've seen them in excellence and they look like that on this 968 turbo RS..
