How many of us out there?

968 enthusiasts...and not counting the 968 powered machines. We are scattered over a few forums so it's not easy to count. There are regulars, occasional drop-ins, and those that lurk. Any ideas on totals? Estimates?

rgs944 11-23-2010 10:20 PM

I just stick to this forum, some of you that go on the others which forum has the most 968ers. There only looks to be about 15 or so regs here.

pmason 11-23-2010 11:09 PM

At least I use the same ID across the other forums.

The right crowd and no crowding, not to mention the best moderated site around.

jeff968 11-24-2010 09:37 AM

We have a little over 200 members in the PCA 968 Register.

968gene 11-24-2010 09:41 AM

Thanks Jeff. I was just curious about numbers and not about politics.
Related to the postings about 968s being wreck or otherwise parted, i was wondering how many true enthusiasts were out there.

flwbyu 11-24-2010 10:52 AM

Jeff, great to see that number. Always interesting to see the totals and what they represent.

ernie9468 11-24-2010 12:05 PM

On pelican I believe there is at least four beside you & me Gene but don't know if they are on RL thougth,and__ Pmason__ my user's name on Pelican is ernie 9944 the reason is I did joint Pelican at least a year before RL & didn't have my 968 then.

User 41221 11-24-2010 02:31 PM

I'm here mostly, and occasionally drop in on 968.net since its come back I also tried to be active in the 968 forum on RW, but it didn't seem to take off. I am pretty sure I am one of the 200 members of the PCA registry that Jeff mentioned.

I never spend time on Pelican, but I don't have anything against them, I just don't have a need to add another forum onto the list of places to visit. The only other 968 specific site (and please, let s NOT turn this into an "us vs them" thing, okay? Thats very old news) just didn't capture my attention like this site always has.

I keep tormenting myself thinking about other, newer, faster toys and yet, I am unable to think of myself without owning a 968. I'd put money on the fact that I am a lifer. lol

odurandina 11-24-2010 03:35 PM

i like Rennlist. i've pissed off a lot of people. i have a small group of supporters who send amazing pm's about my politics. very good stuff. at present, i am likely THE most controversial member in the entire of Rennlist. the only other person that even comes close, was RedUFO. some seem entertained by all the crap i take from LTC, some perhaps justified, much (say the Rennlisters), being "not."

my inbox had 10 pms this morning... why ?

a thread i posted last night was totally obliterated by one of the moderators. (you wouldn't believe by "who..." not just closed — but, obliterated.

the topic: JFK, and the men who actually "did it." i received 10 pms including one from Bob R, who was a seemed to be a bit more sympathetic than the person who removed the thread.

the 968s....

just a 944 S3 so of course, there's tons of help from 944 and 968 guys... the few guys that we do have exclusive to the 968, know so much about the effin' cars that we're covered.

this month, i'm buying up about 1/3 of a parts car from one of the guys. then back on to the final task of getting the car set up for 170~175 mph...

Eventually I will shell out for a PCA membership.
So count me in.

Apex Rex 11-24-2010 09:30 PM

I don't post often, but I lurk frequently. I'm a PCA member with my 968 on there, but I don't know if I'm in the registry?

notthd 11-27-2010 02:56 PM

Im here also... been very busy and deployed OOT for almost a year but back home now. I too use the same user name on pelican but mostly over there for 911 stuff.... I sold alot of stuff to those guys when I was heavy into the air cooled monster.. Almost only here for 968 and 930, great group.

sydneyman 11-27-2010 03:39 PM

im still around despite my various car's attempts to maim/kill/impoverish me...

Nice one Ernie and it looks like a true Canadian 968. What's that front license plate?

The hatch trim painted body color was never a factory option, right?
Thanks
Jon

Thanks ___Never notice that maybe Jeff can clear that up ,but I seen them before on some 968 and beleive it's OE.
Jon

The car is from the province of Quebec, those guy has only the rear licence plate so they can put what ever they want in the front

jeff968 11-29-2010 12:21 PM

The early cars (92-94.5) have black b-pillars where the later cars (94.5-95)have body-colored. The painted rear hatch surround is not OEM, at least as far as I know.
Jeff

Julian Allen 11-29-2010 03:23 PM

My car looks something like a 968--does that count?
Doesn't have a VIN, hasn't yet been completed . . . same old song!

User 41221 11-29-2010 03:26 PM

Hey Jeff, there isn't a PCA 968 Registry decal available for our cars, is there? I don't want to go crazy with decals, but wouldn't mind seeing something small and subtle that allows us to recognize fellow registry members. Something as simple as "Porsche 968 Registry Member" in a small Porsche script that could go under the PCA decal would be cool.

Not on the standard options list, but could have been a special wishes option.

The Turbo S cars came from the factory with color coded hatch trims.

I have been concentrating all my efforts on completing the coupe registry which I did last month (a 14 month effort). I do have a new registry design which needs a little more work and then will be available. Then I'll use it for decals and embroidery. Stay tuned.

Jeff

User 41221 11-29-2010 07:41 PM

Thanks! I am not trying to add to your work load, its just a suggestion. We very much appreciate your hard work on the databases and registry! :)

rap 01-08-2011 09:09 PM

Jeff out of 4600 or so how many are out there and not necessarily members of the register. Odurandina, how objectionable could your politics be as long as one respects your right to have them regardless of how wrong they might be! Lol!!!!

savvas944 01-09-2011 11:38 AM

love those Chayenne 17 inch wheels.Slightly heavy also.

I picked up a 95 cab in the fall and check in daily. I usually hang out on the 993 board. I'm very impressed with theses little four bangers and plan to do some mild mods in the spring. I already replaced the 17" cups with some 18" hollow spoke twists.

Hershey April Swap Meet

The rear hatch painted to match the car color was only done by the Porsche factory to the 4 Turbo RS and 14 Turbo S cars that were manufactured.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS
The Central PA Region will again host the Porsche Only Swap Meet, a gathering of 1000 Porsches in beautiful Hershey, PA on Saturday, April 23, 2011.

We had over 130 Porsche 968s attend this event when I hosted the 968 Celebration/Gathering/Get-to-Gether events in Hershey.

As Jeff Coe, 968 Register Advocate mentioned, there are 200 plus members of the 968 Register www.968register.org and Jeff recently notified us that there will again be a 968 event during the Swap Meet (Dinner friday night, 968 C
aravan to the Swap Meet plus other activities at the Swap Meet).

My wife and I will try to join the Friday Dinner but I will be working at the Porsche Concours and will not be able to join the 968 Caravan to the Swap Meet.

Look forward to seeing many of the Rennlist 968 owners at the event.

Don

p.s. I will be bringing my new 968 Pedal Car plus 2 very rare Starter 1:43 scale resin models (red 968 Turbo RS adac version and yellow Turbo RS Le Mans version) plus the new NEO 968 Turbo S 1:43 Resin model.

rap 01-10-2011 11:27 PM

Swmic, do you drive your car in the snow? I also got my car in the late fall, enjoy.
Bob

mattipuh 01-11-2011 01:41 AM

one 968 here aswell. trackprepping and some regular maintenance... douh.

H2 01-11-2011 02:01 AM

I think I've tried all the 968 forums but this is about the only one I regularly follow anymore. It's the smallest but good people here and not a lot of controversy or arguing. Solid information when you want it.

OD,
Please remember that you are in a technical forum, not the P&C playpen.
Thank you.

swmic 01-11-2011 10:15 AM

Bob,

No, both the 968 and 993 live in the garage when salt is on the ground. The allroad gets the short straw. I grew up in Toledo and have had my fill of cars rotting away with road salt.

I'd be curious if anyone has ever mapped out where we are all at. I am guessing that the bulk would be on the East Coast, followed by another grouping on the West Coast Then there is me, alone in the middle. lol

The UK board can be valuable too; and both RL and the UK have active, even handed moderators which keeps the nonsense quotient low.

Todd951968 01-11-2011 02:06 PM

I use this forum mainly, over the others. I use Rennlist for all 3 models. The 968 forum here seems to be less active than the 911 and 944Turbo....probably due to there being fewer 968 cars/owners.

Paul RN 01-11-2011 02:58 PM

I guess there's the odd new person that joins

rap 01-11-2011 08:47 PM

Shawn, know what you mean. Mine stays in the garage and on occasion I get to sneak it out! Course then it needs to be cleaned in the cold. Still fun.

Where do you consider the middle sh944? We may be close.

Kansas City. Truth be known, I know at least 5 968's are here, including Aaron's white '95 LSD coupe, Doug's metallic black coupe, and two black cabs. Nearby, we also have Raj's previous SY M030 conversion coupe and I haven't heard from him in a while, but Bruce Ward is also in AR.

Where are you from?

rgs944 01-12-2011 12:54 AM

About 80 miles west of Omaha. My daughter will be attending NW Missouri State this coming fall so I should be in your area a lot in the coming years. I have never attended any Porsche get togethers in the area but would like too.

968Geb 01-12-2011 01:11 AM

There are 5 968s here in Tulsa, OK. Active in the local porsche club are my Maritime Blue Coupe, my father's Cobalt blue coupe and the Speed Yellow M030. Also roaming around are a red cab and an amazon green coupe.

User 41221 01-12-2011 01:47 AM

rgs, check out KCWS.org sometime, we are pretty active in the area and have been known to make it to both Hastings and MAM.

Five in Tulsa, eh? That settles it then, we should host the National 968 Owners convention!

rgs944 01-13-2011 01:54 AM

Thank you for the link, I have it on my favorites now and will be checking it for up coming events.
