Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3: Excellent all-around performance, very sticky in the dry but don't seem to lose a bit of traction in the wet due to an ideal tread pattern, clears water like a pump. Fairly expensive, though.
Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Spec: A little sharper in the dry, but they give up a lot of wet traction. Cheaper, though. Running them right now and very happy with them.
Yokohama A048: Didn't actually run these, I ran the A032R, the 48 is an evolution. Nearest thing to slicks you can get in a street tire, even more dry grip than the Dunlops, but you have to resign yourself to driving like a normal, calm person every time it rains. These things are pretty expensive.
Also, Continental has a new tire called the ExtremeConctact DW which is getting excellent reviews and is cheaper than any of these things, and I'd really like it if somebody would try them out on a 968 and tell us all how they are...please will you be our guinea pig?

I own a 968 - but the Conti ExtrmContact DW tires were just installed on my 996 last week. Both cars are 17 inch rims but the 968 is a 7.5 wide front and uses 225 section width tires. Rears are the same on both cars. I will be happy to share my experience but note the variables. So far - 20 miles...all is as advertised - Very much more compliant ride (as compared to the 9 year old Conti's they replaced. But they are also smother than the Bridgestone 750 tire on the 968.

Kumho makes a pretty good range for the 968, I'm currently running the Ecsta XS http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....Model=Ecsta+XS and had the Ecsta SPT last set... Donn

Over the years I've had five sets of the Kumho Ecsta ASX's on four different vehicles, and they have been great with each set, no complaints. Great price thru Tire Rack, for a great tire.

Whatever you do I would not recommend the vredestein ultrac sessantas in extreme low profiles. I burnt through 2 stes in less than 7K miles each. Extreme stick in dry and wet just did not last. picled up alot of road debris also for some reason, more than any other tires I had.
I have the contis on the cab but no miles to speak of yet.. will see.
Cheers, Mike

Try the Sumitomo HTZIII for all around tire. Firm ride, good dry and wet traction, quiet ride and excellent tire for the money. I have been using them for the last few years on the 968 and the wifes' BMW. Purchased them from Tirerack.

I moved away from stock sizes a few sets of tires ago. I have been running 235/45/17 on the front and 275/40/17 on the rears mostly this is for ride comfort vs any performance gains. The list currently looks like:
1. Kuhmo Ectsa XS
2. Falkin FK-452
3. Falkin Azenis RT 615K
But going to keep my eyes open for specials and suggestions
Thanks for those made already!

The other tires on your list will wear out 2-3x faster so consider that into the cost equation. Michelins are the best, everything else I've used has compromises in noise, comfort or wear.
