need help indentifying the following...
1. I think I'm missing something on top of the distributor cap, what is it and is it important?
2. Notice the 3-wire connector on the right of the PS reservoir, the bottom part is frayed so I reconnected them and just insulated them, what is this connector for?
3. Where is the pickup for the tach signal?
Thanks!

The part above the distributor cap is just a rubber plug/cover for the timing inspection hole, not a huge deal. They are cheap enough to get, but I'd bet at least half the 968's ot there are missing them. (Mine has it, btw... lol)
The second one is a bigger deal, thats the connection for your hall sensor, and if its not working properly, neither will the car. The performance will be significantly hampered. IMO, you need to get that fixed.
Out of curiosity, what the heck happened to the cam gear housing? I have never seen one of those cracked like that, and it makes me a bit suspicious of some the previous mechanics that have been working on the car.

Thanks
what is the 'hall connector'? what does it do? Engine runs fine, I just insulated each wire.
Its already that way when I got it, the car has full service records from Japan Porsche dealers.

thanks ernie,
the engine runs fine, its just the rubber parts near the connector that has collapsed so i insulated each wire as i reconnected them...do you know if this sends signal to the tach? that's my only real prob with the car, the tach doesnt work
