Somebody who was really fat, or wore clothes that rubbed when they got in/out (a person with a pistol on their belt would cause wear like that). Or they just rolled the odometer back to get the car to sell on ebay.

Actually had the same issue with a 28k car- the orthopedist who owned it was a large man. Had all the records on the car so I know the mileage was correct or he disconnected the odometer frequently . I actually would cause that kind of wear in the car if I did not concentrate getting in and out.

i threw away perfectly good grey seat covers (passenger side was pristine) when i removed my electric seats. i used the stock sliders, (welded sheet metal to them) to accommodate my new leather sparco's. i figured that the leftover electric seats weren't worth keeping around so i tossed them. didn't realize the passenger side cover would be useful to anyone with a worn driver's side cover. found out the motors have value too. oops.

One other possibility: Crappy leather care products.

Mileage does not wear out a bolster, but the number of times the driver has gotten in and out of the seat. So my guess is this car has seen many short trips as opposed to a few longer trips.
