Various new 968 products, Turbo RS type II wing, 993 headlight conversion

Hi all

It's been a while since I last been on Rennlist as I was very busy with gettings things installed in the new workshop / factory, giving my 951 a Mid-Life-Upgrade and also working on the 968 Turbo S project car.

The long awaited Turbo RS type II wing will be available very soon, the center piece is ready for serial production and the side pieces are ready for taking moulds.

In the meantime, I have spent almost a week in total to complete the wings for the 993 headlight conversion. What looks like an easy modification is a quite complex job.
All other headlight conversions that I have seen (a red car, an amethyst metallic one and a yellow one) just had the headlight units rested in the original wings. That looked quite frog-eyed and the angle of the headlight units is far too flat. In order to get a solution which looks like the factory would have produced it for the car, we had to "marry" the front part of a 993 wing to the 968 wing, heavily increase the angle that the light unit sits in the wing (which ment moving down at the front and moving upwards at the rear) and subsequently build the wing up about 2cm's from the rear of the headlight unit on about 60cm's backwards. Then, to finish it off perfectly, the new side line had to be carefully built up and integrated so that we have a perfect cross-breed of 968 and 993 wing:

Today I have done some final sanding and wet sanding and taken some pictures of the results which I think look absolutely stunning:

we probably will offer a full 993 headlight conversion kit including wings, lightweight headlight units, covers, etc. if there is enough interest...

Best regards

Beni

Speedlines? Kinesis?

Just came up from the shop, was working on opening up the front of the car so more air would flow through the intercooler. Where did the fog light delete ducts come from?

Cheers, Joel

Love the headlights.
I'm assuming it will be extremely difficult to produce a kit for this, given the need for donor 993 front fender pieces?

Nicest headlight conversion I have seen - alas relatively unattainable as Lewis indicates.

Hi Guys

Thanks for your comments.

The wheels off course are Speedline Competition.

It will be rather easy to do a serial production of these wings.
In order to save a lot of weight, we will do them in high quality FRP (Fibreglass Reinforced Plastic).

The only problem I still have to deal with is that the original headlight units of the 993 are (1) very heavy and (2) too long to fit into the 968 front without having to cut the metal work on the car. I therefore would like to do a lightweight headlight unit which uses a custom reflector and rear case and an E-approved Hella headlight unit and the stock glass cover. This way, looks will stay the same, it will therefore look factory and the conversion in total will save between 15 and 20kg's...so updated looks and reduced weight, what better can there be :)

I need to gauge interest though before I proceed with preparing serial production on this conversion. The price for the full conversion will be between 1000 and 1500 euros depending on OEM materials required, Hella Headlight units and the time to produce a kit.

Please note that the front is just "sticked" together for sanding and alignment and panel gaps and alignment in detail is not as it will be in the end.

Cheers

Beni

oh, forgot to mention that the foglight ducts are also available from us and so is an optimized version of the TRS IC vent (thought I'd mention that as you stated that you are opening up the front)...

Cheers

Beni

Beautiful work! That really has me thinking about upgrading the Gen'l Sherman to a 968 based body and go for that 3.0ltr block I've been pondering...

:)

Do the brake intake ducts mate with the euro turn signal lenses or the RoW turn signal lenses?

Moook 09-17-2009 07:19 AM

Beni.
The fog light ducts + the larger "mouth" opening in the front PU, [Do you do the "mouth" part].??
Can you tell me how much you do them for, as i cant seem to see them on your sales site.????
Im just contemplating doing a "turbo lookalike" front PU to fit to my CS...

My body guy would be thrilled ! "Hey Larry lets tear up the front on the 968 you just finished !"
I really love the bigger opening center and the 993 lights !

I'd like to see pics of the metalwork in progress, how the two fenders were cut and mated.
