Hi gents it’s been I while since either myself or Beni have posted on the 968 board mainly because the project car got put on hold as we’ve simply been too busy but we managed to find 4 days last week to blow the cobwebs of her.

We managed to locate a 944 N/A in a breakers yard in East Germany so after a quick phone call the sale was done. The owner of the transaxle breakers yard also has a small workshop so Beni decided on a quick work holiday over there loaded the trailer and some tools and off he went on the 400 miles drive.

He arrived last on Monday night and unloaded the car ready to start work on her the next morning at 7:00 am.

Within 1 hour he removed the roof by drilling out the spot welds on both the 968 project car and also the donor roof:

Time for the fun part (the primer) and yes the car was completely repainted again:

Prepaired for a "DRY" flat sand first rubbing black powder over the primer:

Loaded for the return 400 mile journey back to our factory in Switzerland looking stunning in the sun and after a brand new windscreen was fitted on site:





The bonnet is past repair hence why no paint plus awaiting the 968 Turbo NACA and IC vents:


We also picked up a set of manual windows from the breakers which we will detail the fitting process shortly plus the interior.

Looks great but have a question or maybe just a thought............

With the top off it would have been the perfect time to weld in the roll cage. The roll cage in a RS is a pretty elaborate piece of art / safety equipment.

Thanks Miles we will install an FRP hood and add the NACA and IC ducts/vents to that.

This car has been involved in various accidents in the past includig a roll over and the original repair to the roof was poor to say the very least.

Joel, we will deal with the cage at a later date (end of this year) hence we did not want to hold things up but yeas you are right it would have been a perfect time do do so with the roof off

The main priority now is to install a couple of 968 CS bucket seats plus carpet so we can then concentrate on adding the KW Ver.3 suspension and then a Turbo lump. We will ditch all the 968 wiring and install a complete 951 wiring loom which is easier than messing about with the current loom.

For the time being we will paint the cup wheels Maritime blue in true CS fashion until we find another set of 18" factory Speedlines as the ones Beni has are going to be fitted to his 951 which is currently having a full repaint.

Our priorities at the moment is our 951 wide body dedicated race car which is moving along nicely and we want that finished as soon as possible

1 week off mate and that was part of the reason for quickly prepairing the 968 so we have something to picture it on

I simply can't wait to see it fitted which will finish this project off perfectly.

Our 968 Aero Windscreen deflector is also nearly ready to launch which again will be fitted to this car - now we just need a new hood as we currently don't make these in FRP

I suppose you mean this place in Crimmitschau?
Can understand why you guys had it done over there, labor cost are much lower in the easten part of the Germany than in Switzerland.

I think that's the place Olli but will check and yes you are very right labour costs over there are extremely cheap compared to Switzerland and we will get them to help us on projects in the future if feasible as it’s a long drive. The 993 will be going there shortly for jig work which Beni this time will not be getting involved with much to his relief mate

Beni was telling me that the average monthly wage over there is about 700 Euros ... I do not know how they manage to live on that!

Yes that's the place were we got the new roof from: http://diweis.com/ but I'm sure that the workshop used was further down the road but will ask Beni as I know he stayed in there guest house.

Have you purchased any parts from them before? Beni was saying the have about 80 transaxles they are currently breaking.
