A crazy day in rebound !!!! Departure Tuesday 2 to 7h for Aix les Milles; 8:30 am the 968 got off the trailer and that's where it all starts !!! Thomas Delord who was guiding me to put the car on the power bench notices a leak sound on the exhaust !! We open the hood, and verdict without appeal, the turbo flange exhaust lets pass gas !!! Direction the pit and disassembly of this damned turbo starts and all the bad surprises have been given RdV !!! 3 screws on 4 sheared in the body of the turbo;

A starter cable had begun to lose its insulation due to its position too close to the exhaust. In short, it took all the know-how and a huge patience of the team to remedy all this: to remove the screws sheared from the body of the turbo, to re-tap, to find the good studs and not to put screws like it had been (Badly) done, then redo a part of the starter beam ....... remake the thermal insulation of the inputs / outputs of turbo ... and all go up .....

We take the opportunity to drain and change the oil pump strap, put the bottom flat and 19h30 ... contact ... engine ... it turns !!
So, tomorrow afternoon the car will pass its tests of power to the bench and will have its geometry and its weighing !!! So it will be good for a start Thursday morning for Dijon!

Wednesday, 3 May; Race against time for MFPower Competition because it must finish a carto of a NORMA in the morning to attack my 968 the afternoon !!! Departure for Aix at 14:30 and when I arrive, the 968 is already on its scales for the set-up of the chassis !! Great!! The figures are excellent: Weight 1141kg with 50L of gasoline and "anvils" as wheels (+ 12kg compared to BBS) So we validate 1100kg as "the right weight"
The camber values are perfect: -4 ° 10 'to the AV and -3 ° 10 to the AR.

Engine drain and reassembly of the flat bottom AV and the 968 passes on the power bench

. Lamda probe in place

+ Turbo pressure gauge installed

The first shots confirm the power with the manettino on position: Turtle and Liévre as identical: 368 and 350 cv at 6050 rpm and a torque of 440 Nm at 4500tr / mn with a turbo blowing at 0.9b. But the curves on the last 1000 rpm do not sattisfont: Disassembling the spark plugs = Index too hot and a little poor on the readings thus, they replace the spark plugs by cooler, dismantle and clean the filter gasoline. Last shot in the "skull" position: 374 hp at 6050 rpm and 513 N.m of torque at 3500 rpm presion turbo: 1.2b.

Done, it is 7:30 pm and you have to load the car to go home to recover a night of sleep before departure for DIJON

Friday 5th May, the day of the tests ... 11:50, pit lane and left for 30 mn ...... heuuu, say 4 mn because on the second round, black-out complete ??? An invisible hand activated the circuit breaker !!! I watch passing the buddies from behind the rails and finally the tow truck !! Arrived at the portal, I make a try, in case or !!! And miracle, everything lights up and it starts again !! I go through the pits, take a look under the hood and I leave on the track. Acceleration, 2nd, 3rd and .... the knocks known at Le Castellet are manifest, almost impossible to exceed 3/4000 rpm. We go back to the Paddock ........ I decide to take a look at the connection of the cut-out button in the left wing and ??? Stupor, the connectic ballad between the chassis and the wing and ditto a trigger wire of the extinguisher.

Well, it's on that the connector with its pins has to touch the metal shell and have the power off. As for the plug of the "extinction" button it was the one that had to provoke micro cuts while walking between the metal parts. And it is true that these two buttons receive piles of dirt thrown by the wheel AV .; There is no protection of the inner wing flange.
15h15, start for qualifying practice !!!! Output pit-lane, acceleration 2nd, 3rd and ........ a-strokes at 3500 / 4000tr / mn ... Finished, we return, not bothering to crawl while dragging. If more electrical problem, remains the fuel supply. I pass the back of the car by candlelight and it is of lying that I inspect the battery of pumps (there are 3). A present at its exit of the electric cable that feeds a greenish viscous run. We will test all this little world. Contact, ignition and 2 pumps on 3 vibrate, so work. It is one of the two that is used to force-feed the carboy in the roads. ORECA is there and it saves me by having the same in stock !!! Disassembly, reassembly and spinning.

Not extra, the self is rich, and has trouble holding down the diet. Normal Wednesday, the gas pressure had been increased; So we go down a bit, the idle is good. Small turn around the Paddock and ....... a-strokes that return after one or two strong accelerations ????? Well, we'll have dinner with the mates and forget all about it ... the night will bear advice ................

Saturday May 6th !!! Day of the first race GT Classic on Dijon that will be made ...... without my 968. Indeed, after having checked the gasoline filter, put back the candles before the shooting on the Wednesday bench, always a slow idle too Rich, it smokes black, it tends to clog up !! In short, package !! Because an erroneous parameter must give info to the control center that it lacks gasoline .... It is necessary to pass all this to the Haltech suitcase and to detect the faulty probe. To fix it all, it's been raining for 13 hours without a break ... and we're going to have to load the trailer and the car for tonight. Tomorrow Sunday we take the way back ....... Bad weekend !!!

A decisive week for the continuation of the Championship: Tomorrow, May 16, direction Aix-les-Miles at MF Power Competition to pass the car to the suitcase and find why the injectors give full speed even in slow motion !!!!!!

Facebook Post

Then if everything is OK, the week after, an hour "After Work" on the Paul Ricard for the final tests "life size". It will be the repetition of the Race of Charade: 40 mn of rolling with the pause of 2mn30 between the 17th and the 23rd minute.

Bad new !! After having eliminated the different possible origins of this "intermittent" failure, remains the final diagnosis: the calculator !!!!! So it will be a shipment to Holland to inspect and perhaps repair or when a new replacement !!! The inter-season will begin sooner !!!! Resumption of hostilities in September at the Historic Tour Nogaro.

While preparing the car for the technician to have a view (photo report) of his future work for the new wiring

, It is necessary first to back down the car which must remain on its trailer; In order to open the engine hood.

I take this opportunity to start the mandatory replacements: disassembly of the extinguisher (end of homologation) which "electrically controlled" will pass "manual control to cable", (and an electrical harness minus !!!).

Disassembly of the bucket which arrives at the end of homologation also.

Removal of the general case or battery and electronic circuit breaker. The latter will be replaced by a manual zipper (and another wiring harness minus !!!)

We begin to make progress in the "ancillary" work according to the purchases and arrivals of the materials. The bucket, this time with ears "is there (more safety in case of lateral impact)

All the old automatic extinction is disassembled (not the same pipe diameter) as well as its wiring.

All the rilsans that bind the bundles under the dashboard are removed in order to better follow the wires and remove the useless ones, and the electrician will have all the ease to recreate more judicious passages.

I temporarily reposition the old battery and its wiring in order to start and move the car.

I finish in the afternoon to try the possibilities of positioning of this battery and the extinguisher in order to make possible supports. The extinguisher in the upper part would not be bad with an easy passage for the cables of the pulls.

To be continued

Small work of 2h30 this Saturday morning !!! The installation of the new bucket, on its new Sparco turntables and its new Recaro sliding bracket (good material compared to standard rails). Work patiently to find the right holes, the right inclines and mark all the markers.

.. we climb and dismount ..... that's all is OK and validated with helmet on the head and on the positions back and forward to the maximum.

(Maximum retracted position)

(Intermediate position adapted to my template)

And we re-disassembles the bucket in order to leave a good accessibility under the dashboard

.....to be continued

3 small hours to kill this Sunday..is enough to make and position the support then definitively fix the new fire extinguisher with manual control. The car must be pulled back on its trailer in order to be able to bolt the extinguisher support under the chassis.

Preparation and positioning of supports

Folding and cutting of the aluminum sheet which will receive the extinguisher ....

Marking, drilling and bolting all

The fire extinguisher is in its final place.

Still a little time spent on the car .... putting up extinguishing nozzles in the cockpit, one for the upper body

And one for the bottom

These 2 nozzles will be fed by a line directly from the fire extinguisher. A second line will go directly to the engine compartment
Then positioning, drilling and fixing of the new battery on its approved FIA support

Finally almost, since the delivered screws are too short .... 5mm !!!!!!

It goes on quietly ... on June 26, the car will go to Castellet Car Motorsport for the simplification of the electrical harness ... in early July it will be MF Power Competition that will take over for the harness "engine management" and control of the new ECU Haltech. At the beginning of October, the first circuit tests are planned to take part in the last two meetings: the final of the GT Classic on Magny-Cours and that of the Porsche Motorsport on the Castellet !!!

Good 3 hours to successfully feeding 2 extinguishing nozzles Fire driver side !!! Not easy to work the aluminum tube of 8mm diameter !!!!

But with patience and method, it's finished !!

it will remainThe power supply to the nozzles of the engine compartment that I will make at the end of June with the electrician because this passing passes passenger side and that is where the cables coming from the battery will be fixed .....
