Default 968 Control Arms

I am wanting to upgrade/replace the control arms on my 968. One on my car is still the original (149,000 miles and nonrebuildable) and the other is from a 944 (no air duct mounts) Looks like new ones are about $1,000 or I can go to Charlie arms for $1,500. Are these the only two options or has some one found a more affordable alternative that still has the mounts for the brake air ducts?

Car is basically a street car that I use for about 4-5 DEs a year. I am also thinking about lowering the car about 1 inch which I think is still acceptable with stock arms.

Thanks for the help.

Tim, you can get these rebuilt. If you still have your 968 control arm, I would suggest you send them out to a place like Vertex to have them rebuilt. I had great experience using Dyanmic European in the past but they no longer offer this service.
Charlie arms, last I heard are close to $2k now.

Racers Edge makes control arms for around $1,600

My 968 arm is different than on a 944. I thought they were not rebuildable as the bottom looks like it is factory sealed.

I just went thru this entire exercise, and was fortunate enough to locate a used pair of 968 A-Arms with less than 30,000 miles. When I was looking into rebuilt units, I spoke to a couple of well known retailers who specialize in rebuilt control arms. Both of them confirmed that I would receive rebuilt 944 control arms and not necessarily 968 control arms. I was told they'd fit w/o any trouble, but they won't be exactly the same. They'll make you pay a core charge that will be returned when you ship them your used 968 control arms, which they'll be more then happy to snap up. I'm not 100% sure if anyone can provide actual rebuilt 968 control arms at this time, but I could be mistaken.

If you send them 968 cores, they should be able to rebuild them. I would start with Vertex.

Ask Jason at Paragon Products. I believe he owns one of the 4. If I remember right it sold for around $100K.

I replaced my stock control arms with Kokeln's unit...

They are very nice and you should also consider these.

I hadn't visited the Paragon site in a while, they really do a nice job of supporting the water pumper crowd.

I like Vertex for new parts, but I wouldn't buy anything rebuilt from them. My suggestion would be to contact Sloan at http://www.ssiauto.com and ask if they could do a set of 968 arms.

Luis, thanks for the link. I had great experience getting control arms done from Dynamic European over the yrs. I was really bummed to hear that they no longer provide this service.
Its good to know that another vendor offers this as well.

SSI were the first to offer ball joint kits with metal bushings for 944 control arms in the U.S. I believe they bought the concept from a German supplier that is no longer in business.

I have these kits on both of my cars and they have held up perfectly over the years, but I recently noticed SSI now rebuild control arms for you as well.

Both Vertex and Zims told me they cannot offer rebuilt (new ball-joints) 968 control arms - that was in March of this year. If you ask them, both will tell you they'll sell you rebuilt 944 units that will fit a 968. But they will accept 968 control arms as a core. If you send them a 968 core, you'll get a rebuilt 944 control arm with new BJ's in return.
