How about a verified speed of 203.9mph for an '88 928? (see race results at http://sscc.us/results-07-sscc.html

Or 207mph (Pony Express Run? 2007).https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ghlight=NEVADA

I'd love to get my 968 on one of these road runs. I'm sure I wouldn't get into the 200mph club but it would be fun.

Quote: "We leave the line and within a mile are running 170 MPH. We warm the car up from about 5 miles they put the pedal down. We actually cruise the 11 mile straight at 202 mph and start banking time. The car feels so darn good even in the winds that we slightly change our planned 30 seconds back to a "just go" stategy. For the next 25 miles we are averaging over 180 and loving it. Just before the speed trap entrance comes up I see a car on the road in front of us. What the ???##$%. It was the Mustang that started in front of us. Oh no!! not in the speed trap!! I make a personal decision that he is not going to spoil my day and floor the car. Unbelievably the car is acellerating from 202 mph we are closing really fast on this guy. We are now only 2 miles from the gun and our car hits 205, then 206, then 207. We can see the other car and the radar station and Cheryl is saying go go go go. I get into the left lane and thankfully the other car moves to the right. We go by the radar station at 208 mph and pass the other car at the same time. How cool is that. We are higher than a kite and are leaving this other car in the dust. We slow the car down and try to relax and I ask Cheryl to get our time so we don't get to far ahead. She checks the time at the next mile marker and oops, we are averaging over 180 MPH. That is not good. We slow to 145 and coast to the Narrows and take the narrows at a very slow 115 mph trying to dump this time. We came out of the turns and are still 35 seconds fast so I keep the car at 145 for the next 10 or so miles. At 5 miles out we are with in 2 seconds so I start the climb up to 170 again. We cross the finish at .800 seconds off of perfect 170 mph time.

I will not bore you with the rest of the story, but at the awards we took first place by 5 minutes over the other 170 competitor. My GPS says 208 mph (yet to be verified by the promoter) I have my doubts because two cars in the trap at the same time is not good for accurate readings.

I'm exhausted today so I apoligize for this long winded acount of the weekend and poor spelling and grammer.

By the way, the team from Norway did apparently break the record at 234 mph but ran out of gas at the finish line. Silver state will have to verify the radar speed for them also."

Wow, that must be some serious machine and not just the engine, but the suspension as well.

I've seen just under 170mph in the 968 and 175mph in the 951, indicated. There was an 8% over-read on the 951 when compared to the GPS. I didn't have a GPS when testing the 968.

Anyone raised their redline? If so by how much and for how long?

But wouldn't it require humongous horsepower to get the 968 to rev 7900 rpm in the highest gear? That is, once you pass 160mph the remaining MPH really depend heavily on high horsepower and each MPH requires additional hard-to-come-by horses.

And as Raj suggests, suspension and brakes are equally important. Going fast is one thing. Staying on the ground another. As stopping fast is especially important.

At 200mph, how many feet per second are you going? I suspect you cover a lot of ground in a very short period of time.

968turboS2, fortunately I have a trans with very tall gears so I don't need that kind of redline.

I am sure it does, but that is not what I was getting at. With our gear ratios 7900 rpm must be achieved in sixth gear to make revolutions for 200+mph

So, 6750 we have a fuel cutout right? Unless it has been modified, so I was asking if anyone has made any modifications to make more revs or not in order to do more than 172mph or so.

What also do you consider humongous horsepower?

Wait, so even with more power, I can't surpass like 160 mph???

Forget this whole turbo project then.

You guys are nuts I have gone about mid 130's at least that was when I quit looking down at the spedo and that was fast so I can not even imagine putting that needle up in that 145-160 zone and what about the one guy he said 170 mph that frickin nuts. Not everybody will be as blessed as the LordGalva.

I'll tell you...the batwing on my S2 makes a huge difference. 140 with it off is a lot scarier then 140 with it on. The wheels shakes quite a bit more and the car isn't as stable. Then again, when I did 140 with it on, I was on a interstate which was smooth as glass.

I'm curious in seeing what I can get the S2 up to, but so many factors that coul end my life...it scares me. I know this car could do 155-160...it'd just take a while. So I would think a 968 would be capable of 155-160 as well...just might get there sooner.

And at 200mph, you're covering 293.33 feet a second.

If you can't reach redline in 6th gear, more power might help you do it, and do it faster.

If you can already reach red line in 6th gear, more power will NOT give you a higher top speed, it will only help you get to your top speed faster. In this case, you would need to change your gearing, and/or increase your redline in order to get a faster top speed.

Gearing is one barrier and fuel metering is another. For 600HP in a 3.0 Liter Turbo it comes out to like 1200cc injector size. I have read some 500-600 2.5Liter claims and I am wondering what size they could be using for a 2.5 to flow 500hp. <- Sorry free associating there....

Anyway, 500HP with a 968 tranny to me seems to me like that would be one hell of a car in any situation. Especially making more torque than HP. I was just wondering if we had any people who had their redline raised after some major mods etc.
