Curious as to what y'all have in your 968s for sound- original, modified, etc.

What later porsche ( Blaupunkt) radios fit?

If you were replacing your now, what wouyld you use?

Scott, interesting that you bring this up. I need to install a working radio in my cabriolet. I yanked all non factory wires from the non factory radio when I bought it. Its been 1.5 yrs without radio so far. I guess winter would be a good time to get one.
I will keep an eye on this thread and see what is a popular radio for our cars.

I just picked up an Alpine 9887 to replace my kenwood EZ500. Stock radios leave alot to be desired, if you are into music.

I've got the CR-210. I'd like to figure out how to hook my iPod to it too. By the looks of it I think I have to get the next model up.

I think I had an eclipse. Hard to remember, but it had a 10 cd player in the back and the sound was awsome.

FWIW, I would recommend a Becker Traffic Pro (from a 993). Clean, single DIN, factory option/look, good NAV.

I just bought one for my wife's 1997 993 Targa (Tiptronic.....I learned after the 968 Cab 6 speed "incident"....).

You can buy them from Becker with all necessary manuals, harness adapters, parts, etc.

I installed a CDR-210 also and love it. It just requires an adapter wiring harness...and slips right in. Great CD player and coming from the Boxster it "looks right." The next model up (220?) I hear requires a $100 adaptation to the face plate so you can read the display.

It cost me about $35 or so to have an adapter harness made up. I think Stereo Specialists (?) of No. Carolina did it for me.

If you buy off eBay, make POSITIVE sure that the security code comes with the unit. They'll tell you that codes are "easily available" from the Porsche dealership. Not! At least not where I live. Dealers assume it's stolen or it would have the code or you have to prove it's yours. And lots of stolen radios w/out codes on eBay. The CDR-210 has the removable faceplace.

I have the original radio from the 968 (CR-1)...it came with car but had wrong code card with it.

I do have a CDR-210 on the shelf that I forgot I bought a year ago, I found it while cleaning out the garage this weekend.

I have a Magnaflow 3" w/out cat as my radio...works just fine!

That's great to hear. If you have any more info on who made it up for you I would appreciate it. I googled "stereo specialists" in No. Carolina and its too generalized.

I'll second the Alpine 9887 - installed mine last month and it sounds great (I do have a sub mounted in the right cubby(coupe) so that does help)....more adjustments/flexablilty than any stereo I've had before and if you want to connect an Ipod - its has a great interface. You find it for around $300-325...so good bang for the dollar. I love it!!!!

If you are looking for a wiring harness - SW stereo carries most anything you could ask for or they will make it for you...You can also use older VW harness - it has a couple of extra wires IIRC but is a direct size match....

The original owner of mine right after purchase had a Nakamichi cassette head and 10 disc changer and changed out the speakers put an amp in the drivers wheel well along with a couple of bass tubes all custom done to a tune of about 3500 and that was in 92. The system to todays standard is fair but it will do.

I have a Blau Stuttgart unit which was installed in the car when new along with the factory amplifier and hi-fi sound system. It sounds pretty good so I have the cassette I-pod adapter hooked to it and I'm all set. No more carrying CDs around.
