Question 968 conversion to fixed 993 or 996 headlights...

I'm selling my 944S2 cab and looking at a 968. I can't remember where I saw it but someone has a solution to the headlight conversion to a low profile fixed-light conversion. Anyone???

There are many ways to go about this. I don't think there is any "easy" or "simple" way about it though. Some people make custom enclosures, and I've seen at least one car with the 993 lights installed, but that was very involved and required the fenders to be cut.

This car is somewhat famous/infamous around here and I saw it on ebay a few months ago.

No offense fellas but pop ups date the car (like the ones on mine...). The 993 conversion is a lot cleaner (and oh, yeah, aerodynamic). I found the article I was looking for and it appears they run about $1000 for the conversion. The specifics are on 968.net.

I was looking all over 968.net for the article but failed to find it. Can you give me a pointer? I too like the conversion.
Thanks

There was some recent discussion of it in 968forums.com there was a car at Rennsport that had it done which kicked off sme discussion. There is info on the shop in there that did the conversion.

ugg... I can't believe he's using(ok, maybe I can) a cheap knock off hid kit. Way to take extremely low quality parts and put them on a nice car. It's very unfortunate.

I would love to see some output photos of the headlights. I can't imagine how they aim properly without some major modifications inside the headlight. Projectors don't have that much room for adjustment, and when the headlight is laying a good 15-30 degrees further back from how it's designed, you're living dangerously with what the stock adjustments can do.

I don't see anything wrong with HID units; it's just taking a nice upgrade and upgrading it further. It's popular for 993 owners to install HID kits and it always turns out well.

there's nothing wrong with quality hid units... there are HUGE problems with cheap, drop in hid kits like what he's discussing.

Mainly that they're incredibly unsafe for everyone else on the road. There's a reason that they're illegal to buy, sell, use, or install.

If your going to all that effort to retrofit the 993 lights and modify the fenders and everything, why wouldn't you spring the extra buck to put in the 993 litronic unit. That would be a much better light then any aftermarket HID's.

it says he installed an 8300k hid bulb... I don't think lighting performance was a concern at all there.

Oh yeah, cheap ultra bright bulbs are nasty! I hate getting blinded by those (usually ricer) cars and their obviously non-stock photon cannons. However if I were the driver of such a car I wouldn't mind... I get blinded every night, it would be nice to dish out some revenge. Especially to some SUVs and trucks.

I guess you could say cheap HID kits are like nukes. I want to stop anyone else from having them, but it's fine if I would have it.
