Oh and we are working on the custom pipework to make the tial 46mm fit with the 968 bellhousing as well. Didnt realise it wouldnt fit until we tried to install it!

Thanks for all the useful responses! At this point I'm looking at getting the Pelican complete kit and replacing the pressure plate and clutch disk with heavier duty parts from one of a few places. Jake at Powertech is looking into a setup specifically for the 968, they have a wide variety of 911 clutch kits so I think he will be able to come up with something.

While digging for clutch kits, I came across this picture on Powerhaus' website - pretty clear indication that you can indeed fit a wastegate while retaining the stock crossover pipe's geometry. This is pretty much exactly what I was thinking, and should be pretty easy to fabricate.

Paul, that is pretty much the way to go. This still allows you quick clutch changes. I went with a single piece, 951 style setup because I did not need 60-2 setup. Also, I was able to get 968 turbo S torque tubes so I wanted to keep as many original things as possible. On my next conversion, I would stick with DMF.

From talking to you Raj I always knew we could use the DMF as I know it worked fine on your car. Strange thing was David at Powerhaus insisted that the DMF would tear itself apart when fed the higher torque of the turbo 3.0 and that I would have to buy a single piece flywheel. I was initially interested in this setup due to the reduced weight etc. but I didnt want the complications of the rattle from the transmission so I stuck to Plan A. Anyway if all goes well my setup should make good power with the custom head and Motec so we will see exactly how much it can take!

My previous setup ran flawlessly with the DMF. I had reasons to change to single piece unit but if I had to do it again, I would stick to DMF.
Nick, how much longer for your car to be done?

Well the engine is in, the custom pipework to attach to the crossover is being done today, just the final wiring bits to sort next week and then I will take it on a trailer to my tuner so he can put a safe low boost running in map on the Motec. Then its basically done for now, just need to get the suspension sorted sometime during the running in period before we wind up the boost. I am very excited, as you know its been a long time coming, but fingers crossed we got it right and built it to last forever, so it should be worth the wait.

My car also has the DMF and I've been running it that way since 2004 with no problems.

So, I don't think you'll have any problems.

Although as far as weight savings go, the other route is very enticing!

Jason what clutch are you running and what kind of power are you making? What wastegate are you using?

I am really looking forward to becoming a member of the 968 turbo club!

Nick,

Pretty sure it's a 911 twin turbo clutch...I've got a stock wastegate.

The car puts out somewhere around 350 hp at the rear wheels...Torque numbers are similar, too.

Jason, if it is a stock wastegate, I would strongly suggest going to a Tial 46mm unit. Stock units bleed boost in higher rpm while Tials will maintain the preset boost level all the way to redline. Was it a brand new unit or a used one? They go weak over time as well.
