Default Need help with info on 968 Trans and Diff!!!

I have a 968 trans with LSD. All of the internals are in good shape but the case is cracked. Do any of the parts of the 968 trans case cross reference with any other trans? Someone said once it was the same as a G50 trans. Is there any truth to this? What years and models did the G50 come on?

Also, what information (options, year, ect…) can you tell me from the numbers on the side of the trans?

On the part that holds the diff- 815 0 0530 10
01E 301 103 B

On the center part of the trans- 156233 3257 17 7 91

On the Back part of the trans- 01E301211
815.0.0708.90
Germany
3 7 91 BDE3
Thank you for your help

I just looked at it again. The only part that is broken is the transmision case with the part number 01E 301 103 B.

Any idea if this was used on any other trans?

The dealer should be able to search using the part number as well. That should tell you which other models had that part number.

If this is the aluminum case with the differential in it, it's unique to the 968. The transmission "family" is shared with Audi, so there are some internal components that might cross. But Audi used it as a front drive transmission, so the front case is configured for a clutch. They also mounted the transmission into the car differently, so you really couldn't easily use their case.
I think it's a dealer only item and kinda pricey.

I'm not sure I get your point. Do you think you can go to an Audi dealer and get this case?

It is doubtful that you will find that piece at a decent price, unless you find someone with a grenaded 968 trans that is parting out the pieces (needle in a haystack thing, as they are generally worth rebuilding due to the rarity and going pricepoint).

With that being said, I have two questions:

1. Where is the part# 01E 301 103 B cracked? If it is on the end where it bolts to the torque tube housing, it may be repairable and not a big issue.

2. How are you certain that the rest of the trans is in good shape?
