Possible Group Buy For Shift Linkage?
There is a thread on this forum concerning the availability of a short-shift kit for 968's, see link below
https://rennlist.com/forums/968-foru...for-968-a.html
As part of this discussion, John Isaacs mentioned that he had a custom shift linkage part made for his transmission, by Bill Radar out of Las Vegas. The part Bill fabricated was made in bronze, and was custom sized for a perfect fit to John's other components,. I called Bill to gauge his interest in making a batch of these parts for the group, and he was interested in doing this. He did caution that the smooth shift performance that John experienced came from the careful and custom fitting process that his machinist did , and he did not see a way to get the same performance with units that were built to a "one size fits all" specification. He felt that it would be possible to have a set of units machined to the basic size and shape, with the two holes purposely drilled undersized, so he could later customize the fit for each customer. This customization step would require having each customer to send the mating components to him.
Bill is going to send me a picture of the component, as he has already built it, and I will post it here when I get the picture from him. You can also see a picture that John has posted of the linkage in use in the thread referenced above.
So my question to the group is whether you would be interested in being part of a group buy for this component? This will most likely be a little more complex of a transaction than a typical group buy, but maybe he can quote us one price that includes both the machining of the "blanks", and the subsequent customization step. As the one reference point on price that we have now, John paid $200 for the initial unit built. If you can post your interest level in being part of a group buy for these components, we can push this discussion forward one step at a time?
Thanks, Nathan

Regarding the question/comment about it being a bolt-on modification, it would be. That said, there is the caveat that you would need to send your existing parts to Bill, so he can exactly fit the size of the holes in the linkage to the size of the two shafts that pass through it.

Team,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to the group on this topic. In looking at this thread and the original thread on short shift kits that started it, I count eleven people that have expressed interest in purchasing, again with no commitment asked for or given yet. The way I left it with Bill Radar was that I would use this forum to make a better gauge of the interest level, while her would in parallel think about the possibility for how to make a batch of these. I will contact Bill early next week and tell him that it looks to be 10+ people interested, and we will need some feedback from him next on estimated cost and purchasing details, which I will share back here with the team when I get them.
