I came across this Schnitzer locally, apparently they generate good down force too. The one I’m looking at, from the pics anyway needs uprights and generally looks a bit beat up but wonder if has potential?

Are you considering putting that on a 968?
Would be interested to see what that looks like.

Yes on the 968. The wing is 45” wide and I’m guessing I’d build mount plates similar to the Turbo S, but all in carbon though. I’ve seen aftermarket wings that bolt to the body but I don’t like that as it impedes access to the open hatch, so I’d want to mount it as close to the OEM as possible. The ask price is pretty good so what the heck might as well have some fun with it over the summer. I’ll have to make moulds so if it turns out maybe others might like one too.

Unless you can mold the carbon yourself, I assume aluminum supports would be easier and cheaper. Yes, maybe they would weight 25 grams more...

Keep us up to date. Sounds like an interesting project. Any idea what the stock wing generated in down force at speed?

i believe it’s nigh on impossible to fabricate aluminum uprights to fit on the edges of the hatch similar to the OEM and that’s where I think it should be mounted. So CF is my material of choice as i’ve experience with the stuff and the epoxies. As to the down force of the stock device I don’t know if it has much as it acts primarily as a spoiler to break up the lift caused by airflow over the hatch. In order to get a wing to generate downforce it has to be raised high enough to find undisturbed air and that’s about 2 feet higher than the roof. I wouldn’t do that but would definitely raise it up.

I’ll have a look at the wing next week and go from there.
