Default 968 CS steering wheel

Just wondering if this is the same as the 968 CS steering wheel?
Sure looks nice.

Thanks for the comments. I should have done more research before I posted.
Here looks like the cheapest around: https://www.design911.com/Steering-W...60mm/prod1173/

Seems same/ or very similar style comes in 340mm and 390mm diameter also.

I wonder if airbag delete would **** off CA DMV or my insurance company?

Why would this be an issue? The parts are legally for sale from the OEM in the US and can be installed as a factory issued, US approved enthusiast option.

I'm assuming not all 968's US-bound had air bags fitted as standard (from '92 MY)?

For a modern car, it would technically be illegal, as you would be tampering with a federally-mandated piece of equipment.

In the 90s airbags were not yet mandated, but the car's approved crash-test data was based on the presence of airbags. Removing them arguably makes the car non-compliant in that case. I don't know if there is a provision for allowances after a certain age.

Coming down from the cloud of ignorance, I personally would be wary of driving a car with 30-year old airbag technology unless I knew the history of the car, its storage methods/temperatures, etc. If it's been stored in sun, humidity, etc., I would question them.

I think Porsche recommended replacing the airbags after 13 years? Nevertheless, it's first-gen airbag tech. There have been several accounts on the 964 board of spontaneous detonation from prolonged vibration.

All U.S.-bound Porsches had driver and passenger airbags fitted standard starting in MY90.

Thanks for all the responses. I would love to add a CS wheel. What is the diameter of the air bagged four spoke wheel?

Hey guys, looking replacing my airbag wheel with a non-airbag wheel. However, doing some research on the web, in Virginia the insurance coverage will likely go away and the state does not allow the tempering with airbags. The main reason I'd like to have an aftermarket steering wheel is to bring the wheel closer to me. I was not able to find a spacer for the original 968 airbag wheel, which would be the best solution. Even searching the different forums I am only able to find the replacement with an aftermarket non-airbag wheel and the 993/996 option, which does not seem to move the wheel any closer to the driver.

Thanks!

Otherwise, have you thought about a deeply dished steering sheel?
