Default 968 bellhousing and damper plate solution

Hi all,
I just compared the part number for the bell housing of the manual and tip version and the numbers are different. My plan was to replace the worn damper plate with a clutch assembly, but now I doubt it is possible. Anybody any experience with this?

I haven’t ever heard of that being done, probably because using a non-vibration absorbing clutch in lieu of the dampener would cause a significant amount of vibration in the drivetrain. In other words, I don’t think the results would be pleasant in terms of driveline vibration.

It's done often in 944s with good results. I would have everything to do this conversion if you need it.

I have read a couple of posts on this solution for 944's only. It looks like the bell housing is identical for both 944 auto and manual so there is no problem swapping this. In the 968 the bell housing for the automatic is a different part and looking at the drawings seems to be less volume.
I am dropping the tranny etc. to access the damper so I guess it is a matter of trying.

I have an old 944/944S2 clutch plate with the rubber damper in really good shape if that helps, Actually a whole 944S2 clutch (pressure plate and disc) flywheel and bellhousing. Disc is almost new condition and has been in storage for over 15 years.

Jfrahm, that is very interesting but not sure if it fits on the auto bell housing...

I think the Auto 968 damper is the same as the NA 944 auto damper 94411606504. I was thinking since the 968 Auto uses the 944 crank lock it might work to use a 944 clutch and whatnot, maybe bellhousing.
Fitting a clutch disc might mean also getting an S2 harmonic balancer.

Overall probably better to find a replacement damper, they can be found new for $1400. Not cheap but much more straightforward and maybe a 20 year plus repair.

The 968 PET says it is the same part number.
