Boot (trunk) release

Am I missing something or is the only trunk release the switch on the kick panel (RH vehicle) and that it only pops the trunk when the key is on.

That and using the key in the lock on the hatch (or rear fascia if it’s a cab).
How many ways would there normally be?

In my 968, the glass hatch can be released tow ways. One is to press the button on the kick panel just aft of the hood release - the key does not need to be in at all. The other way is to use the key in the keyhole at the back of the car. I often forget to take my key from the keyhole when I use that option.
