Odometer gear question
 

I know this is totally shocking information, but my odometer has stopped working. I took it apart, and found the problem is with the larger of the two gears that typically fail – the small clear plastic gear which fails most often is in perfect condition. The failing gear is what odometergears.com refers to as the odometer pod gear, the second one in the attached description:

Before ordering a new one, I need to count the number of teeth on my old one to ensure I order the correct one, and they apparently came with either 12, 16, or 17 teeth. The problem is that my gear (the blue urethane part of it with the teeth, anyway) has disintegrated so completely that I have no way of counting how many teeth it had. My 968 is a 1992. Does anybody have any idea which tooth count is the most common one? I’ll call odometergears.com tomorrow, but I was wondering if anybody here who has recently gone through this has any insight. Thanks.

Should be 15 and 16. My car is a 1993 Tiptronic. Pics below are from my failed odometer.

Thanks very much for the correlation of gear color to tooth count. Where did you find this? My car has a blue urethane tooth ring, so it must have had 16 teeth. I'll order one from odometergears.com tomorrow.
