Default Front 3 way Koni's at last!

There here in the UK!

Just need to pick them up from the depot this weekend!

I should be able to start fitting my setup this weekend.

Crunch time.

However,

I'm having second thoughts about the rear bilsteins.

They are valved at 400 / 140 and I will be running a 400 lb spring without torsion bars (225 wheel rate)

My front hypercoils will be 250 LB 2.5 inch

Sounds pretty balanced.

Anybody run a similar setup?

What does it ride like?

I am going to have to dump the torsion bars to get the wheel rate that I want with these and am not sure wether this is the right thing to do yet.

My boss at work, who knows a few things about cars (understatement, although I do take the micky out of him for designing the Hillman Imp!) told me that, although a torsion bar is still a spring, it has differant ride characteristics to a similar corresponding coil spring

Any opinions on this.

I need reassurance that removing them is a good thing to do.

This is going to be some learning excersise methinks!

P.S.

Raj,

Did you ever sort out adapting your rear koni's to take a stiffer 2.25 inch spring?

This may be the alternative for the rear.

TIA

Graham

Hi Graham,

Can you provide the part numbers for the Koni struts?

Karl.

Graham, I need to drop my rear torsion carrier to remove the torque tube anyway, so I might just try re-indexing them first. Wish me luck as the chances of getting it right the first time are very slim.
Thanks for the heads up though.

Graham,

I removed my torsion bars in lieu of Bilstein's coilovers on all 4 corners.

I'm running around 700lbs.

Makes it easier to tune...Raj will tell you what a bear re-indexing is.

Karl,

They are rebuilt 951 items (Eric Krause's actually)

I can ask Jason at Paragon for the new part number for these if you wish?

Mine should be identical really.

Graham

P.S. Raj, did you not attempt to modify your rear M030 Koni's then?

I thought you were going to fit stiffer 2.5 inch springs?

Graham, my problem was really that with M030 rear shocks, the car was sitting too high like an SUV. If I used stock shocks or 951 shocks, it came back down. Based on all this, I knew that the helper springs were adding enough to take the torsion bars out of the equation.
If I re-index torsion bars, I sould be abe to go back to M030 rear springs.
Thanks.
