Default Driveline Vibration

Hi
Pretty new to the 968 and I have a strange powered vibration if that makes sense. I can feel the vibration through the pedal while disengaging the clutch in low gears and through the shifter. It changes frequency with higher engine speeds and I can feel that it is through the driveline. Throw out bearing? Transmission mount? Engine mounts? Any ideas? Thanks for looking.

What year 968? There are 2 different versions of torque tubes and the earlier "split" tubes ('in '92, '93 and '94 with 718 code) are more likely to have bearing failures. At this time mine is removed for this very reason. It's difficult to comment on a vibration that I can't feel b/c the TT isn't the only possibility, but if the symptom is ignored and the car is driven hard it can destroy a LOT of other items. Ask me how I know....

However, it is unlikely that a TT failure would be that noticeable at low speeds and engaging the clutch. Mine wasn't and again, depending on the feel of the vibration there are a lot of things to consider including the balance shaft timing. I hope this helps.

Thanks Cliff. Mine is a 1992. I considered the Torque Tube. I did not consider the balance shaft. The vibration definitely is more noticeable at low speeds. In fact shift from 2-3 and higher, you don't feel the vibration. No clunking, so that helped me to rule out motor mounts (I think). Thanks for the input.

I hope you find it and I suppose I should clarify since I have so many 968s. I damaged the TT in my track car. All the rest are good at this time.

Clutch units, like brake systems, can get hardened spots from misuse....judder if you will or 'warped rotors' (which aren't warped but overheating has pulled the carbon to the surface which is called cementite.) turning or machining can make a rotor/flywheel pretty but the hardened composition remains.

If the motor mounts are involved the engine will smooth out just raising it to 1300 rpm or so; they don't necessarily clunk

Had a problem similar to this when I first acquired my 968 6 speed coupe with 52,000 miles. Brought it to the dealer several times and they could not figure it out. Brought it to Euro Autowerks in Rockford, MI and Tim Thatcher there identified the problem was with the clutch. As I recall it was a rubber piece integral to the clutch that had become weak. Sorry, I am no mechanic and cannot be more specific. When driving it felt like a u joint going bad to me.

Possibly the dual mass flywheel?
