968 Rear Hatch Trim Epoxy?
 

Hi all,

Here's some more drama with the 944/968 rear hatch. I'm replacing the right side trim piece and rubber seal. I'm aware of the weird fasteners and the little plates that face the outside of the glass. Can anyone help me with what type of epoxy Porsche used, or the best aftermarket brand/type to use? I could use a super strong mix I suppose. If it doesn't let go for another 20 years, I'd be ok with that! Has anybody replaced one, or have any tips, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks man, I wasn't talking about the actual seal to the rear window, but that was a great thread. You're a submariner? Retired? The side piece for the spoiler came from Germany with the sealant/epoxy/RTV (still don't know what it really is) already on there with the little plates/threads installed as well. I couldn't believe it. Everything was going fine until I think I over-tightened the top two slotted nuts. The sealant came off the top mounting plates. Unbelievable. Anyway, I was able to carefully sand the sealant off, and re apply JB Weld. I clamped the top two plates with c-clamps and let it set for 24 hours. It worked great and it looks great.

The sealing material on my rear hatch is de-laminating all around. There appear to be pockets of air where the seal has pulled away, and I am wondering if anyone has had a similar symptom? I am tempted to try and "shoot" some new sealant into the voids to reestablish a full and complete seal, and am curious if anyone has tried to do the same? The hatch is still water-tight, but I am considering whether action now will be easier to augment the seal which is obviously failing slowly over time, or wait until it reaches a point where if does leak?

Curious if you tried this. Was thinking of trying this with a hypodermic needle and syringe.
