Default Genuine M030 wheels! Only $6k!!!

Don't know if you saw this ad on eBay for a set of 968 17" Cup2 wheels.

Wheels

Only $6k! But they are genuine M030 wheels

But as you know, there is no difference in the option code 398 17" cup2 wheels found on the 500+ 968s that came equipped with them and the 17" wheels found on an M030 968. Hopefully no one falls for it.

There was a set of used and refinished Cup I 17" wheels on Bring-A_Trailer last month, and they ended up going for more than $5K. Maybe we are seeing the start of a Cup Wheel renaissance, with price rises to match??

A Weisach quote I have;
"The 968 M030 option had 17” wheels. In 1992-1993, the wheels were the Cup 1 style. In 1994, the wheels changed to Cup 2 style. 17” wheels could be fitted to a 968 independently of the M030 package – so having 17” wheels does not mean a 968 is equipped with the M030 package."

Ebay description doesn't mean a thing!

Thanks Jeff for the M030 link. indeed, for the 968 the M030 options were only ever about suspension (struts/dampers, springs, sway bars) and brakes (928 S4 calipers, discs/rotors). Also available, to accommodate caliper and rotor dimensions, were different spindles and hubs (used if ordering M030 from the factory spec).

As you say the 40% locking diff was never part of the M030 package for the 968 - M220 for that. Interestingly option 398 was also available '993-look wheels' - definitely not as good looking at the Cups imho.

The Sport I have came with M030 sway bars and last August I went for original spec Koni adjustables' (keeping as M030 was factory intended). Also with a complete new geo set up and Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrics it transformed the handling of the car - perfect predictability and awesome grip.

Lol, for anyone looking for non-M030 Cup II wheels I have a set for sale in the classifieds -- 993 spec, but they fit and look great!

Pretty sure I know from which car that set of Cup II's came.... :^(

For anyone curious, you can still get the correct 17x7.5" Cup II fronts, new, from Porsche. The 17x9" rears are also available new from Porsche, but can easily be found used for a lot less than new if needed. Finding the correct fronts, used, is significantly more difficult.

A completely new set from Porsche will be less than what that 'bay listing shows, FWIW.
